Chinese Solar Stocks on an Impressive Run to Start the Year After a Dismal 2012 Trina Solar Ltd. TSL | 1/4/2013 8:20:03 AM Chinese Solar Stocks on an Impressive Run to Start the Year After a Dismal 2012 http://media.marketwire.com/attachments/201109/31891_Paragonlogo.gifhttp://at.marketwire.com/accesstracking/AccessTrackingLogServlet?PrId=970850&ProfileId=051205&sourceType=1 NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 01/04/13 -- Solar stocks have started the year with an impressive run after a dismal 2012. China's urbanization plans are expected to create new energy demand in 2013. The Guggenheim Solar ETF (TAN) has surged nearly 20 percent in the past week.

Wonder how high this will go to before the news comes out. Not high volume, but moving quickly up! Will be interesting if Friday gains are held on opening on Monday. Don't see us knowing much till the third week in January at the earliest so any guesses where this rise will stop. IMHO and happy new year all.

I heard talk of 16p as a special dividend. TBH not done much research here but if you are right then the share price should be higher! I got in a while back at 5p and sold at 9p and I agree, could be another 3-6 month double up in share price. GLA
Frogive me if i was not clear, this is a play on the return of cash to shareholders whch is likely very significant indeed. I am not interested in the future of the company post 6 months.
Unknown cash. Yes unknown but we know its a lot! Estimates are multiples of current share price. Resturcturing and closured will mean asset sales and more cash. They have a lot of assets. Shocked at the drop i am in for more.
but they have also said that they will restructure the business to ensure a break-even performance in 2013. So they should be able to conserve what cash remains after the distribution. This seems to me to be the right strategy - a special dividend and/or buyback, and then stay in the game in the hope that the industry pricing structure changes and they can invest and grow again.
Mixed bag RNS. Good news is that (unknown) cash will be returned to shareholders in the first quarter of 2013. The bad news is that trading conditions have worsen, there will be closures and job losses and the company will make an operating loss in the second half. IMO these two factors cancel one another out and the share price should stay around this level - lets see....
Looking at the interim B/S - i make the min liquidation value as 16p (will try and post when i have more time as to why) but it could well be substantially in excess of this. This has the potential to really surprise to the upside. I think the management have been excellent in preserving cash/resolving contract issues. They also seem to have accepted the PV market is buggered because of the Chinese. Biggest issue will be determining best means of returning cash to shareholders. I personally favour a buy back and then a divi.
maybe this UK Company will buy solar panels from a UK company like PVCS ? http://www.mmegi.bw/index.php?sid=11&aid=473&dir=2012/December/Wednesday5
http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/biz/archives/2012/12/07/2003549523 Green Energy Technology Inc (綠能科技), the nation’s biggest solar wafer maker, yesterday posted its second straight month of revenue growth. Last month’s growth was boosted by an increase in demand following anti-dumping and subsidy probes into Chinese solar products, the Taoyuan-based firm said in a statement. Its high-efficiency solar wafers also helped gain market share, it said
There must be more news out there, but we are just not hearing about it yet. Keep rising & nearly break even!! Buy now 10.5.
Hi, Can you direct me to where it was announced that holders would get 17p per share - and when will that be paid. I bought into this over a year ago and have watched it dropever since (as with most of my punts!) so this is a bonus. Thanks
So we are getting 17p a shre back out of cash surpluses. Nice to know I have not lost all my shirt on this. This will rise steadilly as the news gets out. Could well be worth a spread bet long?
I wonder how high this will go until the 'dividend' news is released? Anyone got any views? IMHO.
thanks for your posts...wondered what had nudged it up nearly a whole 2p...
Barclays sharecast PV Crystalox Solar to return cash to shareholders PV Crystalox Solar saw shares rise strongly on Monday morning following news that is to return some of its cash pile to shareholders. In an interim management statement, the manufacturer of components for solar power cells, announced: "The group has a strong net cash balance and the board is continuing to reorganise the group, to enable the return of cash to shareholders. The board expects to make a further announcement before the year end." At the end of June, the company, which manufactures components for solar power cells, had €122.4m of cash. Sandeep Deshpande, analyst at house broker JP Morgan, estimates that it will have net cash of €87.6m or 17p a share at the end of 2012. There are hopes that the company will return most or all of this cash to shareholders, possibly as part of a long-term plan to wind down the company, which is bleeding money in an exceedingly tough market for its products. While the amount to be returned is uncertain, what is clear is that its trading position continues to deteriorate owing to vast overcapacity in the photo voltaic market. Spot wafer prices have continued to fall and are now 76% below the level of April 2011 and remain significantly below industry production costs. About this the company commented: "In response to such market conditions, the group adopted a cash conservation strategy 12 months ago and reduced production volumes. Shipment volumes for the full year are now expected to be in the range of 100-105MW which is at the lower end of the 100-120MW range indicated at the time of our interim results on 16 August 2012. "While the group has maintained its average selling prices significantly above spot levels, the board continues to expect that the group will incur an operating loss in the second half of this year."
Very interesting indeed what could happen in the next 4 weeks. PVCS has so much cash & giving some back to the shareholders is great, but how much is the question we all want to know. So we will know before Christmas & if it 8p or 12p or whatever it will still give PVCS 50% (12p special dividend) of their cash left for the future. Still not sure what the company plans are, but the market seem to like this today & there could be light at the end of all this. Tough few years for us but a wee Christmas gift would go down well for all of us shareholders. All in my opinion. GLA
Interesting RNS & share price rising over 15%. Special dividend looks on the cards. GLA
The Interim Statement confirms past statenents that the industry is in a war of attrition from which only the strongest will survive. The company sees itself as having taken steps to ensure that they are one of the survivors who will be able to grow again when the market for solar panels is in a healthier state. Trades today indicate that the market thinks (or at least hopes) that will prove to the case given the relatively good financial position of the company.
the RNS would suggest that a special dividend is the least shareholders can expect at year end. However the statement did not also rule out closing the company and returning cash to shareholders, but that is probably unlikely. All eyes will be on the final results to see how cash preservation is going. However there seems to be no sign of any change in their part of the PV market so it is hard to see how they can ever return to profitability
