Who feels like a walk from Braamfontein to Wits? Must be braver than me. Hake is a very good fish eaten fresh but kingklip better if frozen. Spain, when buoyant, imports a lot of SA hake fresh, via air freight. I would like to know what country the peach orchards are, having been involved in peach production in SA. rest of hotels seem well situated, Gabes is set to be the diamond center of the world and hotels will boom.
..seem to be in tune with this wobbly bus lol
Jolly annoyed I had not got back in earlier ... Had you?
Jolly chuffed...
Sp up 32%, after all the bad things you said about LONR, go wash your mouth out and don't come back until you have something positive to say.
I hope are ahead for all still invested.Although I sold I do sincerely wish all those still holding Lonrho the very best of luck and good fortune.
Where's kibu when we need him?!!
I don't see it very often in Sainsburys but I have bought it. Not bad in fish pie so if the price is right it should sell OK. Is snoek available in the UK this is the first time I've seen the name since the 1940's?
"Yesterday Lamunu. Today laminate (orange)." After the recent torpedo hit Lonrho's Johannesburg plans, their success in acquiring the lease to Hotel Lamunu at such short notice is to be commended. What a pity that the unbudgeted extra expenses didn't allow a little extra for an accurate proofreader of the public website texts. The public is treated to stuttering English such as "Located at the very the heart of the Braamfontein business," the hotel,"places you within walking distance the vibrancy of the University of Witwatersrand Campus." Clicking on 'Reservations and Enquiries,' it's puzzling to be greeted with Email? [sic] and the phone number. kibu
Was Lonrho at 1.9p a good buy? During the dramatic fall, from 40p+ prices to 1.9p, bullish posters abused the bears. It's happened yet again during the current 5-month collapse from 10.5p to 3.95p. As so many times since 2005, rapid, substantial falls have brought out the woodworm and the hindsight-gifted posters who claim to have made money on Lonrho. I posted strong sells at 40p+ prices and attracted considerable abuse. At 5.91p I posted "weak buy" (neither buying nor being a bull) which fell A THIRD within days yet nary a whinge. What gives?
bit annoyed i missed this rise, knew it would bounce back at some point having read the current direction of the company...tempting at this price so we'll see what happens tomorrow
The 'Hotel Lamunu' website has been hastily updated. The changes were so fast that the new easyhotel, according to the present homepage, is "located next to Africa's first easyhotel." Surely this stuff should have been run past FTI or at least a competent professional before this was released? Two days after the change, it still reads the same. Is it even a hotel or a student dorm? The property owners, South Point, are a "student accommodation" provider. The website, Staysouthpoint.co.za, is, albeit fortuitously, in a suitable shade of orange. Lonrho and EasyGroup's wonderful piece of "luck" is, however, better traced via Douglas Investments. Their business is HNWIs rather than liberated students. kibu
I've spent a fair bit of time checking out the new 'easyhotel' which opened yesterday. I warned what might happen if we left the bus unattended. Sadly, here's what happened http://jsh1949.co.uk/Sentinel/coach%20chassis1.jpg
Jolly, Looks as if incite has moved to abuse. Sorry. Completely unintended and I therefore apologise. Re-reading the posting, which was meant to be humorous, it failed. Poor English. Your retort was humourless but accurate. WADR, it was incomplete. Lenigas really has not left. He has a considerable (well, it was) shareholding in Lonrho and is the Executive Chairmen of a subsidiary that accounts for a considerable chunk of Lonrho's shrunken capital. Your mention of FC put me back on the floor with the doll and pins again, hence the delayed response. kibu
I bet the mm's are forcing the Sp up so that the punters will get excited and buy up the Blackrock holding they have on their books.
sound the alarm! Just kidding, no clean underwear required! Did anyone manage a 3.97 buy yesterday?
Yes I have just noticed that, a very funny number of shares to buy and also funny amount of sterling to spend, could this be an accumulation of share buys through different accounts etc, whatever it is , it's a very strong confidence signal to send to the market and anyone else here on this board.
buy/sell...
trade....
Great vote of confidence Blackrock have the sence to cut losses sell sell sell
Made the right analysis so far but unfortunately did not have the conviction to carry out my bear raid - could be sitting on a 2p a share profit now - at least I got out clearing 6p a share. Having held shares in Sock Shop, I learnt that if you hold shares in a company that goes bust, it doesn't matter what you pay for them, you lose 100% and get nothing back. I don't know whether its a wise thing or not but I was sitting on a loss of about 30% on a share called Goldplat (have been bitten by the Africa bug) - I doubled my holding believing there is a very good business that must be one of the most undervalued on the market - it is a steady growing margin business, trades @ under asset value, pays a dividend, loads of cash (relative to size of company) in the bank and cash generative. There is an expression that if something is too good to be true, it generally is. Time will tell whether my gambling experience will be right!!!
I shall watch for the sub 2p and then have a crack . . . . . .what about all the other stuff `Tuna etc? I am nowhere near up to speed on this, the price has more than halved since I put on watch list less than 3months ago.
...only if I get to keep pets in my office :-) ...maaaaaaybe some day! Holding off on a top up here for now. Might have a shop around this next week or so; perhaps the old 'Conejo de Pascua' will deliver me a strong buy recommendation for a hidden gem instead of a chocolate egg. Here's hoping!
A top job at the treasury awaits you..... young sir. B/W
