ping-pong,
Maybe the mention of popcorn, sets off an alarm in the mods software......
I’d never grass DCB up. Too entertaining reading the pro-EU drivel year after year lol.....
A CONservative MP might suggest the business could be paid for with a free school meals voucher?
MickB, I think the deletion of posts might have been something to do with Pippa Peaches, it sounded as if he/she was touting for business.
Evening PP,
The margins in Engineering are so tight you need to be ruthless to stay afloat .
Only if
Manufacturing is dead in these countries. No one wants be a blue collar worker. Almost all aspire to being white collar. I don't see it coming back. Nice thought though
Since Erdogan has devalued Turkish Lira so much , it'd be interesting to know if he has shares in Beko .
Lord Weinstock was Britain's premier post-second-world-war industrialist.
Outwardly, Weinstock was a forbidding figure, before whom his senior managers - and even some cabinet figures - would quake. There was nothing dreaded more for a GEC employee than the managing director reaching them at home, late in the evening, after he had been scouring the accounts. The thoroughness of his management, the tight control on costs down to the smallest washer, enabled GEC to prosper and grow in the face of the ups and downs of the UK economy in the 1970s and 1980s, when so much of British manufacturing vanished into overseas hands.

"So why did WIDS not buy a British freezer?"
Simples: Had to meet certain criteria, especially for popcorn, lemochello and saugages.

Small print
Made in China.

I remember Weinstock from the 80s. When he refused to sanction the bonus of their best sales person because it would put him on over £100,000. The inevitable happened, the sales person went elsewhere. He wasn't from the Director class and was put in his place for doing his job too well.
I am not aware of any UK manufacturers. Candy was Italian though I think China is in there. Zanussi I think was Greece. Indesit was Greek or Italian. Hoover is Def Candy. Even if you found a UK brand, they would be assemblers and not manufacturers with parts coming from Asia. Made in Britain, the mark of quality - even drinking straws and plastic bags come from China.
does britain actually make any ? beko i think youll find make servis ,hoover, candy ,the last beko recall for a problem they had to name about 10 diff ones some i thought were made in the uk but ob not,

The UK (up to 2021) and Turkey are within the EU customs union.
SO ....no tariffs and unfettered access between the two.

Hassle will start in 2021 with or without a trade deal as we leave the customs union
not to mention the blind eye it turned with the Cyprus cash for passport saga, money talks
Boris seems to get a lot of stick, unfairly I think,Brexit was Cameron's baby he bailed,May made a right mess of it only interested in how to get back in,leaving Boris and team to tidy up ,and up to yet has done all he said he would. Then out of the blue hit with a pandemic which came close to taking his life ,no country is having it easy, give the bloke a chance, the next few months will be interesting
i agree just walk away , did i dream that the finance sector had stated they were staying in our capital regardless ,,as for the fishing a legal nightmare the quoters were given to each country ,some english reg boats owned by [not fishermen] stock peeps sold quoters to france spain etc so hence the problems but the eu should never have allowed any countries allowance to be sold to another infact i think it was illegal but a blind eye was turned, our water aleast up to 12 miles around our coast ,let them have the rest if they come in ram them like the frech did to our legal boats around the channel isles ,have agood week end ,lets hope the upward trend keeps going next week q3 thurs fingers crossed
Time has ran out !!!
It's time for the EU to decide if they want a trade deal with this independent country or not !!!
