I wonder if infra had anything to do with change stokey
In Defence Questions the Minister said that the specification for the FSS has changed.
I would think the skills of Navantia would negate any hurdles on that front (as we are partnering them).
Hi Wimh, anything more to the article than skills shortages. Btw not saying this is not a serious problem. However Gov. must take a big share of the blame for that.
If skills are to be saved and resurrected, action , apprenticeships and ship orders need to come ASAP.
Incidentally I am still waiting to hear Bab**** is it, offer some of the Type 31 work around other yards.
A lot is talked about state support for industries these days. The Germans and French amongst others offer very significant support, but in such a roundabout way, that they consider it does not break any rules.

I was doing some mindless research when I cam across this article https://euro-sd.com/2019/09/articles/14460/uk-naval-acquisition-programmes-current-programmes-and-future-prospects/ Of particular interest is what is said about the Type31e frigates as it relates to H&W. Not sure if this article has been seen before if it has apologies.
Only macron is standing in the way, He is only being a pain because he sold half of his own fishing waters to build a wind farm on, rest assured we will not give in to his ridiculous demands. Germany would lose the most in a WTO environment and have made it clear they want a deal.
If a trade deal is not done with the EU then the cost of Team Resolute could go up due to the imposition of tariffs. In that scenario on the FSS contract if Team Resolute was to win it then to keep tariff charges down a very significant proportion of the work. From this document https://www.check-future-uk-trade-tariffs.service.gov.uk/tariff?q=ship&n=25&p=2 it seems that completed ships are zero rated but parts may not be.
Buys mopped up sells ,Monday might be interesting in parliament
On Monday the MOD Ministers are answering questions at around 2.30pm one of the questions is
16
John Spellar (Warley)
When he plans to issue the invitation to tender for contracts relating to the fleet solid support ships.
This is followed by three supplementary questions. Questions 20 - 25 are on the publication of the Integrated Review. Might be worth watching just to see the Defence Secretary not answer the questions on publication of the Integrated Review. The full list of questions can be found here https://commonsbusiness.parliament.uk/document/43552/html#anchor-0
Stokey. From the Harbour site It appears as if Stena is coming out of the BDD on 7th to go to the SRQ. It's being joined by Celtic Explorer on the SRQ on 10th, then Celtic Explorer is going into the BDD on the 11th.
There's loads of room on the SRQ for both of these. It's the SRQ where the 2 Viking Cruise ships sat.
Celtic Explorer is an interesting visitor to H & W. On size, it's only 65metres, so somewhat smaller than the usual ships coming in for work. It however appears to be quite an advanced technical ship with very specialised equipment onboard for research work. There's a short video below on Celtic Explorer.

I have just had another look at the Belfast Harbour website if I am reading it right there will be a three day overlap when Stna Europe and Celtic Explorer will both be in the SRQ before Celtic Europe goes into the BDD on the 11.
Ivans same here
Stokey. Yep it's the 65m Celtic Explorer coming into the BDD on the 11th. It's just appeared now on the Harbour bookings page this morning. It looks like it's coming to the SRQ the day before and then into BDD on the 11th. It's a marine fisheries boat that mainly does fisheries research work.
andymck In relation to your 05.35 post I had just logged on to post on this. Yes as far as I am aware SRQ is one of the Berths used by H&W Belfast. There was a thread yesterday were ThisTimeNextYeer had mentioned that a ship might be coming into the BDD on the 11/12 December. I am not sure if the Celtic Explorer is this ship and someone just got the details of berth and day wrong or if there is another ship due in.
As an aside according to the Vesselfinder website there are two vessels called Celtic Explorer. One the RV Celtic Explorer is a Irish Registered Fishing Support Vessel. The other called just Celtic Explorer is a American Registered Pleasure Craft. If it is the Pleasure Craft that is cong in I think that would be interesting as it would as far as I am aware the first non commercial vessel into the yard.
"Celtic Explorer, arr SRQ, 10th December." That's ours isn't it?
i will be adding more next few days. our mcap still very low
Yeah Stokey, the Harbour page only shows 7 days ahead. I'll keep an eye out on the site over the next few days too.
Links from that part of Devon to the motorway are pretty dreadful aren't they.
ThisTimeNextYeer Thanks for your 19.39 post with regards to Belfast Harbour I thin they only show things about a week in advance so I would expect it to show up tomorrow or Saturday if your information is correct.
Hi Stokey. At 335 m long, yes, It could theoretically take 2 ships depending on size of them. If Stena Europe is is dry docked however they're not going to refill it, then bring another ship in, then empty the dock again.
As for Stena Europe showing as in until 31/12/2020, I wouldn't take this as gospel. I've noticed Belfast Harbour site at times showing this date as a default when there's been an uncertain departure date.
I could be wrong about another ship coming in on 11th or 12th December. It was a shipping enthusiast on another site telling me in pm that there was an Irish Fisheries type vessel coming to H & W at this time, and it's going to the BDD. I'm always wary about sharing hearsay information like this on the page as it is just that for me, hearsay. I wouldn't want anyone taking this as fact hence my caveat about being not sure if this is correct or not. I can't see anything in the Belfast Harbour site about this possible arrival at BDD, but my chum isn't often wrong in the titbits of info he throws me.
ThisTimeNextYeer Inrelation to your 16.26 post when I last checked the Belfast Harbour website today Stena Europe is still showing as in port until New Years Eve. Is it possible to have two ships in BDD at the same time? I will post if I see anything on the Belfast Harbour website about anything coming in.
I seen the same post about Stena Europe possibly getting deck replacement work and being laid up for up to 8 weeks for this but I haven't seen this confirmed however anywhere.
Stena Europe is in the BDD at the moment however i'm told (but not sure how accurate or reliable this is though) that another vessel is expected to come into the Belfast Dry Dock on 11th or 12th December. This could ask the question is Europe not now getting this deck work done or have H & W simply got every hand on the job and completed what was thought to be 6 to 8 weeks work done in what would be roughly 3 weeks ?
The other possibility is Stena Europe is moving to the bigger Building dock (BBD), however I wouldn't envisage this to be the case or they would have popped her in that dock in the first place surely ?
Ok got it seen link on recent article -
https://www.niferry.co.uk/stena-europe-to-return-to-belfast-tomorrow/
Hi All - The ship in dock is a roll on roll off ferry & does not have decks - confused.
