Lottie I hope you're correct. It's about time this share had a move upwards!
Hi TTNY you make some valid points about IM regarding questions that have been asked by DAERA The relevant documents can be found here .
https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/consultations/islandmagee-gas-storage-project-December-2020-consultation-AIL%20%26%20Consent%20to%20Discharge
This heading of 'Soaring energy prices and potential power blackouts' sounds very dramatic. Is it a reality though ?
For the UK and Ireland it most certainly is according to quite a few informed parties. We've seen the increased volatility and the huge increase in gas prices in recent weeks alone.
My cards are on the table, that as an Infa investor that i want to see the Islandmagee gas storage project proceed. This will help the share price and hence the reason anyone invests.
As a resident of NI and the UK, I very much don't want it to proceed though if indeed it is hugely detrimental to our marine life and the eco balance of our seas. The hoops that DAERA have put Infa through with research, tests, studies, etc, to ascertain the effect the proposed caverns at IM might have, needs to be acknowledged as very necessary and very welcome too. The time delays though have been very frustrating and incomprehensible to those of us not in the informed loop.
Moving on though. Should only Infa investors be concerned on the outcome of this ML at Islandmagee ? My thoughts are that EVERY single consumer of energy in the UK needs to be aware that they WILL be affected with future energy prices if we don't put some plans in place now ? Having adequate storage for gas and ultimately hydrogen are part of the necessary plans for now, until renewable energy sources are greater and more predictable.
My view is that the UK needs to be as independent as possible from Europe, Asia and particularly Russia in producing, storing and providing sufficient energy for us consumers. We never will be 100% independent but the less so that we are, then the less control we will have of future energy prices. Every single one of us are consumers too and have to accept that there will consequences in future energy prices to not having adequate storage provision.
My message to politicians and decision makers is, get this right ! !
We need storage and we need to be confident that this doesn't adversely affect our local waters to an extent to be concerned about. I'm hoping the hoops DAERA have given Infa to jump through are the correct questions that needed to be asked. . . and Infa. . . I'm hoping you guys have addressed these questions to the satisfaction required to proceed with IM.
The consequences of not getting this right are massive with increased energy bills and potential blackouts. I DON'T think this is being too dramatic saying this !
I've popped below some links re comments in the media about these potential blackouts.

Very slowly the tide is turning. The SP has moved above the 50 day moving average for the first time since falling below, following the announcement of the last fateful placing. A close above 20p is the signal. It should herald a swift upward crossing of the 50 day by the 20 day moving average. I remain ready to add again on a close above 20p.
Anounced today this will kick off the offshore/floating wind fabrication projects

LSE 03,now they should stand up an listen ,Boris promised apprenticeships and to bring back shipbuilding to our waters ,news the time to put it in place imho
oldtramp ref 07.46 post I am in meetings all day so will read it later.
Times article also says that shipbuilders are calling for a government backed loan guarantee scheme for UK shipbuilders to put them on a level playing field with other countries eg Germany. Also mentions boats required for immigration control purposes and has an old picture if a ship being built at H&W Belfast. All part of London International Shipping Week
Morning Stokey H@W have given the Gov quite a bit of advice on shipbuilding let’s hope they listen to some of it
Well worth a read if you haven’t seen it before
https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/36599/pdf/
I note that H&W have said in a LinkedIn post that they could build four ships for the Home Office concurrently using all four of its sites. All the Home Office has to do is a direct award or issue the tender.
On top of upcoming government contracts to build vessels for the UK Border Force and Coastguard Agency, half of which to date have been constructed in foreign yards, there is booming demand for crew transfer vessels. These typically are 25-metre boats that ferry construction and maintenance workers to wind farms off the UK’s coastline, at present the world’s biggest such programme of offshore wind development. It is thought that there is demand for 180 of these vessels — costing £3 million apiece — over the next decade.
Behind a paywall but should get an idea of story

Chopper ,yes government will have a plan lol!!:)
Bubble, no idea. we need a knowlegeable submariner.
I saw on TV during an Astute class launch that it could only happen under the right conditions as it was all so tight. The military don't like to be hemmed in case of need for rapid moves.
Chopper shallows 90 ft channel 300+ ft deep Irish channel /sea ,I know a bit i fish there
Cheers for the link, OT. Very interesting contract. Note that on their construction page of their website it shows their ships being built in Spain by ASTILLEROS BALENCIAGA. Don't we know some Spanish shipbuilders?
Nice co-lab to keep both countries sweet. :)
Hi all. I usually feel that I can't add much of value to this BB as there are some really helpful and knowledgeable people on here (and I'm glad about that!).
Today, though, I think there is some confusion about the Trident subs currently based in Faslane/Coulport. The Scots Nats say they want them out if they gain independence as they (and their Green friends) are anti nukes. They don't mention the economic harm that their leaving would do to Scotland (and are maybe looking for a lot more 'rent').
As I understand it, apart from the cost of relocation, the subs need easy access to the deeps to avold being tracked by hostiles as they leave their current base; there are few suitable ports for that in the UK. Judging by news reports on the Astute class leaving Barrow after completion, they can hardly get out of the yard to the open sea. So the base would be totally unsuitable for the larger Vanguard class without - at least - dramatic alterations (and is the Irish Sea deep/wide enough at that point?).
The mention of Europe probably refers to the 'option' that our subs could be based in France (or even the USA!) instead. Words fail me on the prospect of either eventuality. Whoever suggested it to the Press hasn't hasn't been publically identified.**
Now, Milford Haven is being suggested as a possible alternative. We haven't heard from the Welsh on that - yet! I'm sure we will....
**My money is on it being the same anonymous Government SPAD who said that we don't need to grow our own food anymore, just a few months ago.
Stokey let's hope we see some news then on shipbuilding this autumn
Bubble2021 ref 13.16 post As I understand it we will have the Autumn Statement whenever that will be followed by the publication of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. So it may be that the money available for the strategy will be announced in the Autumn statement then the strategy will be published.
Infrastructure news from chancellor I think stokey, shipbuilding hopefully included
One UK shipyard is going to be very happy this month

If only........
The response to this report from H&W https://www.linkedin.com/posts/harlandwolffplc_scotland-needs-new-factories-to-hit-local-activity-6842745884690784256-Fk3h it says 'We at Harland & Wolff are well positioned not only with our 2 Scottish facilities but our other locations in Northern Ireland and South West England: 4 sites collectively boasting over 300 acres of manufacturing & assembly capability. We stand ready to support both fixed and floating projects of varying capacity and complexity. '
Bubble2021 ref 10.44 post I have no idea I remember reading something about it might be put off until next year.
When's the chanciilors budget this year stokey?
Bubble2021 ref 10.27 post there may be political problems with having warships being built in Europe even if by a British firm so it would have to be Barrow or pull the work from BAe.
