Longwait, "'There are a lot of people who've signed papers and articles saying that Fractured Basement 'won't work'.'
There used to be a professor of physics who refused to accept Quantum Theory.
There are still people who claim fossils are not real.
My neighbour says he doesn't believe the dinosaurs existed"
Yes, Fracture Basement has been proven to work, but they are still novel and unpredictable, as demonstrated by Dr T's own statements re their unpredictability. First oil was Jun 19 and yet only 5 mths worth of usable data has been gathered so far and no-one can predict whether the 500 million barrels of oil which are likely to be present can be commercially extracted and until it is categorically proven, this remains a high risk investment does it not?
Longwait, I think you are talking about all Creationists there. I.e. about one quarter of all Americans! (oh, and my mother in law)

For what its worth I don't go with the notion that there are people that want to see Hurricane fail for face-saving reasons on these boards spouting off. Not enough of a motivation. I think it is people driven purely by pure greed and corruption.
With regards Extinction Rebellion...I don't think there are many that would know enough about the Oil and Gas industry (as most in the industry are/were in it because they don't believe the supply is the issue!) and I think they will focus their efforts on BP and Shell as those are the headline grabbers. So far my take on this has been true.
"The money the 'traders' make has to come from somewhere. And it's usually ourselves, the gullible little PI's."
Exactly. I remember listening to the Moneybox programme on Radio4 when they were discussing the miniscule percentage of PIs that actually made a profit. Can't remember the number exactly but it was scarily low - meaning that the vast majority make a loss.
Until recently, and when I was listening to that show last year, I was one one the lucky few that had done 'quite nicely thank you'. I've been stung a bit by the COVID drop, but slowly building back up.
Just please be aware folks of the sharks out there and don't believe all the scaremongering. Listen to those that you trust. And I don't just mean the ones that post 100% positive, everything is rosy stuff either.
Use the Filter!
Thank you for the effort and time of giving a detailed answer, adoubleuk. I am deep in the red with my HUR-shares, but am fully aware that what comes down can go back up as perceptions can change swiftly and radically.
aboubleuk and cocopops
You have both overlooked another possibility.
Extinction Rebellion want North Sea oil closed down.
https://theecologist.org/2019/may/21/extinction-rebellion-protests-bp-agm
HUR is planning to develop a massive new field so why would it not be in their sights.
Why would discussion boards be immune from their activities. Apart from the usual suspects look at those who continually belittle and undermine.
Modestus,
"Who do you think are those people who deliberately don't want HUR to succeed? Are you thinking of oil majors/companies/individuals ? People who claim it is impossible to develop commercially viable oil out of fractured bassins on the UKCS?"
I suspect it's a mixture. Regarding 'Big Oil', one obviously sticks out like a sore thumb. BP. They turned down the idea of partnering-up with Dr Trice years ago, and are now eating crow pie, being contractually obliged to buy the oil from Lancaster ! In marine oil-tanker-loads, not piffle like Udog. Those BP shareholders who've actually heard of HUR (probably a small minority) are probably scratching their heads and wondering what the BoD were thinking of, turning down such an opportunity.
Then, there is the 'geological / academic' community. There are a lot of people who've signed papers and articles saying that Fractured Basement 'won't work'. So they'd just love to see Hurricane 'buried'. Personal pride, professional knowledge, etcetera...
And then of course, there's the stockmarket. 'Cocopops' has just posted some good stuff about this, with which I agree, so no need for me to repeat it. But with the passage of time, especially since having been involved with this share, I've come to learn something. The 'trading world' when it comes to London - based O & G is quite small. Lots of those people seem to know each other. So yes, using multiple pseudonyms on different BB's, they can sometimes 'move' an SP, especially if sometimes they acquire inside information prior to its publication.
So yes, beware BB's ! Personally now, there are just a few people who I still trust to be honest. Some of whom I've never even met, other than on this chatboard. But there are others, so I remain wary. The money the 'traders' make has to come from somewhere. And it's usually ourselves, the gullible little PI's.
Especially those who call me a 'comedian' for just stating my opinion that shutting in 7z is a sort of unwelcome technical glitch, probably temporary, and not the end of the world. And also have the nerve to expect people to read their doom-mongering, when they have absolutely no oilfield qualifications to back up their rumour-mongering. But may have significant monetary interest in other companies who might also like to see Hurricane Energy 'buried'.
ADUK ... so who are all these "some people" ?
A name or two would help ?
I think there are people that don't want Hur to do well in the short term, but I think those people are generally shorters and MMs who have an interest in driving the share price down. They either cash in their shorts or buy in the dip then drive the price back up again.
Chat forums are a perfect opportunity for these people to systematically spread rumours, lies and uncertaintanty. To believe this does not happen is folly. It is however only one tool in their kit and will not necessarily 'drive' the price on its own, but in conjunction with manipulated press reports and buying and selling chunks to suppress or ramp the market I believe that they can indeed 'drive' the share. It doesn't need to be much, but in small-time AIM shares like this they can easily double or half the price in a short period of time. That equals big, big profits.
There are plenty other day-trading posters that post negative comments when they are out and positive when they are in. That's just part of the game of course and we all do it to an extent as we are defending our current position.
These people are different and frankly it is corrupt.
There are plenty good You Tube clips on MMs and how they drive the market.
The thing is, once you know how these folks work you can sometimes second guess what is happening when a share is heading consistently in a direction contrary to all the news and numbers. Problem is determining whether it is due to MMs & corrupt practices or simply insider info!
All IMO of course. :-)
Hello adoubleuk, i have been meaning to ask you this before, as you mentioned it a couple of times. Who do you think are those people who deliberately don't want HUR to succeed? Are you thinking of oil majors/companies/individuals ? People who claim it is impossible to develop commercially viable oil out of fractured bassins on the UKCS? Thank you for your many thoughtful contributions!
arthurchance,
"This share is an honest mans share, that wants to believe in a good story. "
Well said. Except that should be past tense. WAS an 'honest mans share'.
"Trouble is, the stock market is not a honest place to make money. It’s all pitfalls and sly people. "
Absolutely agree. 'Pitfalls' can sometimes be avoided if one looks where one treads. But sly and dishonest people can be trickier to spot. I don't consider Hurricane having temporarily shut in 7z to be a pit I've fallen into. Just another bump in the road. But someone treating me as a 'comedian' for saying that is a person I can't trust.
There's often talk about 'share price manipulation', an idea I partially (but only partially) agree with.
But there's another Idea I become more and more convinced by, even if it may sound paranoid and conspiracy-theorist. That being, there are some people out there who deliberately DO NOT WANT HURRICANE TO SUCCEED. For assorted reasons.
So then, of course, one has to decide on which side of the fence to sit. Which army to join for the battle.
If it's war they want...
arthurchance
Excellent summary, thanks
I suggest you re-read the exchange between Double and me, arthurchance.
It was he who, although seemingly unaware that SIPP had been banned, raised questions about his conduct, and it was I who then pointed out that all SIPP's posted comments have been removed.
Been a quiet bystander here for a while, but reading this today... just wow.. so much nonsense..
Does anyone actually post any fact, corroborated with evidence?? SiPP a prime example. Gone from board so is automatically inside trading?
This share is an honest mans share, that wants to believe in a good story. Trouble is, the stock market is not a honest place to make money. It’s all pitfalls and sly people.
Flip side, this was way oversold last week - I dipped a toe, as I think this has some legs. Current economical climate will recover as it has to. there is no alternative, and as such oil consumption will increase. It has to, not in a pleading wishful way, it just will. With that in mind, and as long as production continues, this share will recover somewhat.
Reentry aside, field exploitation perhaps - tho not likely in the short term due to planning/equipment/complexity of drilling, it won’t be until next year capex provision. The company path will adjust because of the issue with the well, but it doesn’t mean it’s finished. There is plenty of technology out there to isolate water zones (depending on porosity, micro annuli, x flow etc)
This is cheap. Too cheap - a good chance to average down.
All IMO.
