During a carbon footprint debate a developing country said "We have millions of people that don't have a single light bulb, you can't tell us not to develop fossil fuels"
I think that's quite reasonable !!
It's amazing that someone can deduce that a lump of coal is needed to power a light bulb!
I don't think Thomas Edison shared that view!
Tim but dim
Thomas Edison built the worlds first Coal-Fired Power Station:
Holborn Viaduct power station, named the Edison Electric Light Station, was the world's first coal-fired power station, generating electricity for public use. It was built at number 57, Holborn Viaduct in London, by Thomas Edison's Edison Electric Light Company.
Thomas Edison opened a second coal-fired power station in September 1882 in the United States, at Pearl Street Station in New York City....
"The Thomas Edison Electric Light Coal-Fired Power Station" ha love it!!!
The first light bulb was powered by a dynamo Harry, not coal.
Thomas Edison's dynamo (today called a generator) was connected directly to a high-speed steam engine, was one of six that produced direct current at Thomas Edison's second coal-fired electric power station at 257 Pearl Street in New York City. The Pearl Street Station..
Really Tim but dim lol
The first light bulb Harry was powered by a dynamo, the energy source was a human foot depressing on a pedal. (Science Direct).
Keep using wiki Harry for the wrong research.

Thomas A Edison the builder of THE WORLDS FIRST coal-fired powers station clearly DID share that view. In fact he built two coal-fired power stations to generate electricity to power the light bulb. Coal being the operative word!!
All the research in the wold cannot disprove that Thomas A Edison build two coal-fired power stations for (initially) the sole purpose of powering the light bulb! But Mr green peace, the rainbow warrior thinks he knows better! ;) AND he was doing so well until he added what he thinks Thomas Edison was thinking lol That really is conceited !!
Seems the Rainbow Warrior Norrab1 has given up on his claim that he knew what Thomas Edison was thinking when he powered the lightbulb with the worlds first ever coal-fired power station after replying to my posted BBC comment about a million people that don't have a single lightbulb not wishing to be dictated to about developing fossil fuel with an argument about a lightbulb???
When replying to anyone about anything (here or in life) imo it's best to answer honestly and to the best of your ability (even if you might be wrong) rather than concocting a theory that suits an agenda. Not to shows a real lack of integrity.
It would appear my posts on wind energy have upset poor old Harry Aerial. GW humiliated Harry when he suggested it would take 90,000 tonnes of coal per month to support a 300mw power station. EDL are about 86k tonnes short per month and Harry is left wondering why the SP is languishing at one thirtieth of a penny!
Open your eyes! Coal is dead in 2020!
Wind power has capacity to meet world’s entire electricity demands according to the Financial Times, see link below.
Advantages of Wind Power It's a clean fuel source. Wind energy doesn't pollute the air like power plants that rely on combustion of fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. Wind turbines don't produce atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain or greenhouse gasses. Wind energy is a domestic source of energy.
Sany Heavy Industries will produce 600 MW of wind energy in Tanzania
January 10, 2020 reve
Will Tanzania soon have the largest wind farm on the African continent? This could be possible if the project of the Chinese group Sany Heavy Industries comes to fruition. The group, which specialises in the manufacture of construction machinery, is diversifying its activities, also producing wind turbines.
For several years, the company has been developing its own projects. In Tanzania, it has obtained an agreement with the government to build a wind farm capable of producing 600 MW, making it the largest facility of its kind on the African continent, thus offsetting the Lake Turkana wind farm which supplies 310 MW of electricity to the grid in Kenya.
Tz government obviously pushing wind!
Wind energy in Tanzania: Eurus Energy invests in Miombo Hewani wind farm
March 19, 2019 reve
Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, one of Japan’s largest wind energy developers, acquires a share in Winlab Africa, a subsidiary of the Australian group Winlab Limited, with an investment of $10 million. The money will be used to finance several projects, including the Miombo Hewani wind farm in southwest Tanzania.
The development of the Miombo Hewani wind farm project in Tanzania is accelerating. Windlab Africa, a subsidiary of Winlab Limited, a company based in Canberra, Australia, which initiated the project, has recently received a $10 million investment from Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, one of Japan’s largest wind energy developers.
Have a guess who is behind Windlab.....??
(Aussie company)
The only person pushing wind is you, so please say excuse me!!!!!
