Ha ha - well, no harm done!
I had not realised E2V was actually being sold! I consider myself lucky because I have only lost about £15, the very low commission Selftrade charges on regular investments, and a very small loss on the shares themselves. I don't deserve to be so fortunate. I am strangely disappointed as I was looking forward to owning E2V shares again.
:-)) Courtier - You muppet!!
Are you not aware the company is being bought?
I have just added E2V my list of regular investments. This is probably bad timing but hopefully the drip-feed effect of regular monthly investments will iron out the peaks and troughs in the share price. The share price has gone from 140p to 272p in five years but recent bounces make this an uncertain judgement. The dividends have grown pretty steadily to about 2%. My main reason for buying in is that for many years I lived in Maldon, close to the Chelmsford Factory and knew many people working there. I also watched the company growing up as one of the original GEC factories was in Maldon. It will be five years before I know if this is a sound decision.
...very unlikely. It's a cash bid, they already had the support of the Board and around 40% of the shares, and presumably bought a bunch more in the market yesterday. I took my money out yesterday giving me lots of lovely capital to find my next winner (...or dog!) ;-)
thanks dickymint, time to sell.
Few ways to look at it, if you think there may be a counter offer from another bidder then hold (possible), if no bids you can hold until the acquisition an get 275.00, or...the takeover might fail an the share price retreats.. personally I sold today (bird in the hand as they say), but GL to all
I was lucky enough to be holding these shares. So is now a good time to sell? What is likely to happen to the value over the next few months, it seems to be pinned at 273 for today at least.
Terrible decision, but there you go. Foreigners always want those companies that design and make things and provide great value -- it's never a bank for example. Plus the English are the biggest financial *****s in Europe. I wouldn't want to be a 4 year-old growing up in this country. They'll be slaves to foreigners for the rest of their lives.
Yes agree with all that CM. Pleasure mixed with a tinge of sadness definitely the order of the day!!
This morning's news was a surprise to almost everyone I believe but it is a good if not exceptional price. Glad I held on to my shares and it's nice to see a 46% uptick in my portfolio but can't help feeling sad that another independent British high technology company with a proud history will fall into foreign ownership.
Well Jargonpain, I have to congratulate you on the post below. Great in-price, and a spot-on call regarding a US based acquisition. Last month has been very painful in this stock, but what a lovely Xmas present today!! Won't be the last US acquisition in this sector I feel given the exchange rate!
I am a buyer here, I've been looking at E2V for a long time and simply cannot resist this price. I think hopefully any bad news and expectations are out there. If however things don't improve then I think it would make a tasty acquisition for somebody especially something US based at the moment. I wonder to those with better knowledge of this share and sector what companies might have products which E2V could sit alongside?
...but back well into the £2s again! Quite right too!!
Ah, looks like there's a full year trading statement out on Monday, so a bit of nervousness ahead of that maybe? Fingers crossed!
Disappointing to see the stock back below £2. Any news anyone?
E2V Sold thermal cameras ! Local word has it
R and D redundancys, don't look good selling
"Global technology firm e2v, has provided NASA’s New Horizons Mission with two image sensors which hope to capture the first ever close-up images of Pluto. New Horizons which launched in January 2006 plans to examine Pluto, its moon Charon and other icy worlds at the edge of our solar system. After travelling over three billion miles to reach Pluto, it will provide scientific data about this little known region and the conditions at the origin of our solar system." Now I remember why I bought these shares five years ago... Isn't it great!
