DRCed/ "The only thing that has held us back is the association with Mick Lynch" Without Mick Lynch there would be no Darktrace. Many on here have made money out of ML(me included) and not for the first time. We are only passive investors, the likes of ML, are the wealth creators.
I can’t recall just how many of the companies I have had shares in that gave been taken over, but it runs into dozens. This is what I have observed.
If Mr Market considers counter offer will be made the SP rises above the offer price , the price reflecting the probability of that happening.
Mr Market considers the takeover may not eventuate, the SP will fall reflecting, the price reflecting the probability of that happening.
A small fall we are experiences suggests none of the above. The difference between the current SP and offer price will be the view Mr Market takes on the £/$ FX and the opportunity cost of any proceed from any sale now. Currently the discount is about 3% which is about what you would expect if you sold now and invested rhe money in a deposit account.
The offer undervalues Darktrace, there has been a major improvement in this company’s performance over the past year. Going forward Darktrace was on course to be Europe’s too cyber security company. The only thing that has held us back is the association with Mike Lynch, but that connection is reduced with every day he is in America and away from the company. I will hang onto my shares, an improved offer is required.
There is still hope of a bidding war
Many usa firms want a Uk footprint … sure Jeffries can find someone within next 3 weeks or so willing to offer 750 p :):)
I agree & would be surprised if one doesn't materialise as better to buy now low cost vs off TB on a re sale at a premium
HKK the pound / dollar rate is only one small factor ( a few per cent each way ) so far I believe US dollar will stay strong for next 5 months
The biggest factor is can Jeffroes find another mug to offer more , say 750 p :):) thanks the big bet now another counter offer !
Quite bizarre that holding Dark now is the same as holding an ETF on GBP USD
Forecast is stronger GBP 6-9 months BUT
anything can happen; war/conflicts, oil, energy, elections, inflation, interest rates etc
It's just not DARK, most of the companies have had the pee taken out of them. More will be taken over for so called premiums but its meaningless when they have been shorted so much. The trick is to find another company which has been shorted for a takeover. There are plenty out there.
In this world we live in, you’re only going to get fed crumbs unless you’re seated at the top table!!!!!
Remember Avast got bought , their shares went up over time due to exchange rate , but no extra bidders
Sheltie- your comment:
“+ but TB will get this company growing even faster, but with much larger profits, with its huge financial (and geographic) reach and commercial muscle. It's a great fit for DT and it's very easy to see why it will be voted for "unanimously"
But, what would you say the primary purpose of the BoD is - to to ensure the company’s future growth prospects in the hands of a new owner or to ensure a profitable future for the company for the present owners given the primary purpose of ang BoD is to look after the interests of all its present owners?
I think the latter. If they can’t match TB the BOD is basically incompetent and should have been changed, a view I have held for some time.
And if TB is so much better in extracting value, the BOD should have negotiated a much bigger slice of that cake for the present owners.
A friend of mine had a large garden, the end of which gave access to a field developers wanted to develop. He was able to negotiate a price 10 times the going rate of residential land representing a good chunk of the developer’s profit. Both parties won and were happy.
In the current deal there is only one clear winner. The BoD voted unanimously because they are either incompetent and/or there were inducements for them. Or there is more to the ML affair we don’t know about.
1. Labour gets elected or if people believe it will happen - pound will go weaker
2. usa economy strong so US dollar could see strength and even interested rises to stamp out inflation
So balance view is pound gets weaker versus dollar next 6 months
That’s good for Uk pound holders - price we get could go to 625 p even without takeover bid
Ignore most of Sheltie comments , he sold out too low 300 to 350 p … I believe Jeffroes will find another buyer to offer higher 69 per cent chance
I am a small investor too and been here for the long term hoping one day for that big rise, I stayed through the ups and downs only to be shafted by the big guns!! Well stick your offer where the sun don't shine I'd rather fall on my sword and lose the lot...Power to the people!!!!!
I imagine the weekend was spent with many slide rules going over the numbers at Darktrace
Which co will throw their hat into the ring next? Panmure reckon Palo Alto
Push the SP up for a higher price
Even though I am looking at a 65% profit I feel I have been mugged,my pockets picked and hung out to dry. This companies value will absolutely rocket over the coming years and I have been thrown off the bus for being a small shareholder, unable to stay on board for the ride. Feeling bitter at the pathetic buy out price 🙃
Berylfu I am pleased for you and if I remember your average, you come out with a small profit. Take care.
Sheltie - with all due respect to you - ul you often made wise comments however mine were the big picture long term and yours more accurate short term so we were both right
Sadly a lot of investors sold out 300 p to 400 p , some due to your influence … what price did you exit ..
I do think a 69 per cent change of a bidding war as Dark at 620 p is too much of a bargain
So 820 p still possible
I do respect your views however and would be interested in your views on where I should switch my money , for other 6 month to 2 year bets , safe bets on large to medium Uk listed companies or funds
I am thinking put 1/3 of proceeds into China funds and wait 3 years for example ?
