US army chooses Cobham for threat simulator Date: Tuesday 01 Mar 2011 LONDON (ShareCast) - Defence firm Cobham has won a $4.7m order for the initial design and development of a mobile infrared/ultraviolet threat simulator for the US army. The company said that the contract’s total value could grow to $56m if the customer takes up all the options over the next five years.
Cobham wins Boeing contract Date: Friday 25 Feb 2011 LONDON (ShareCast) - Defence firm Cobham has won a contract with US aircraft maker Boeing to provide hose and drogue aerial refuelling systems. The systems will be used on the US Air Force’s new KC-46A tanker aircraft. The systems will be manufactured by Cobham Mission Equipment at its new specialist air-to-air refuelling facilities in Davenport, Iowa. The US Air Forces proposes to buy 179 KC-46A tankers from Boeing, each of which is expected to be equipped with a centreline drogue system. A drogue is a funnel-shaped device at the end of the hose of a tanker aircraft. Around 30 of the tankers will also be provided with a pair of wing-mounted aerial refuelling pods, Cobham said. Financial details of the contract are not yet available but will be announced while the fine print of the contract has been signed off.
I bought these at 198 in December - Have risen nicely. Now not sure if to sell off? Has anyone any idea if the co. will be subjec to a target bid?
Thanks for your insights and take on things. In general, I would class myself as more of a 'psychological' trader. I take account of the technicals, but as I am thinking of filliing up my ISA allowance this year with all shares (interest rates too low to hold cash there) I will continue with my intended plan as there is a lot of volatility out there - a lot of it rumour based, media 'doomsday' hyperbole, etc. So, given the prevailing sentiment, in this case I will wait until my target it reached, and then top up my ISA.
Regarding expectations, I look for 10% then I am out with a trailing stop, trailing a couple of %....... if it keeps going up I will hold till the stop executes on the way down ! Cheers TJM
There is no real bad news coming out from Cobham aprt from contract delays, but because they are just above the 52 week low I would like to see a little more recovery to signal a trend change. Divergence is approaching zero a good sign, as is the StochRSI. 20 day MA is of course trailing but as an early indicator I like to see the SP well past the 5 day SMA and EMA, have a look, it does not let you down to often. So as long as the SP holds, from here on I will be looking for another % or two before getting in. Although I filled my boots earlier in the week with three banks, could'nt resist the silly prices, doing OK so far ! My view... as always DYOR. Comments ?.............Cheers TJM
I hope your buying-in point proves advantageous to you. I would be interested to know at what point you feel is a good time to jump on board. I am assuming you are considering this as an investment vehicle, and not a day trading manoeuvre.
Thanks for the words of wisdom, sounds good, I think I might just wait a little longer. But, timing is everything, when they recover it seems they take off quick, so it might be better to be on the plane than chase it down the runway !!!....Cheers TJM
Market makers can make a real meal of companies like these. For what it is worth, I am holding out for another 7 or 8 percent drop before dipping in. If I miss the boat, then, well.... that's life. Good luck with your trading.
Cobham has been on my watchlist for weeks now and been looking to get in, large company, well managed, good prospects, but all it does is go down................I will jump in in the next couple of days, must be close to bottom now, historically good recovery..........Any reason not to ??? Cheers TJM
Gone quiet...............I'd say !!!!!!!
This board has grown somewhat quiet. The share price appears to be holding its own, but like other stock, mighty and feeble alike, are caught up in the uncertainty sentiment that pervades all asset classes. Looked at as a long term dividend asset, this is a stable and solid stock to own.
Nice move up since early August.
another contract win, COB keeps growing. Now just need a good entry point.

Some important moving averages are converging indicating a buy signal with the first resistance point at 178p....
Any thoughts on why this is so sluggish BAE seems to be doing well and i cannot see any news out for this, the technicals are indicating this should be around 178p!
Ref: 284 COBHAM COMPLETES PURCHASE OF US NATIONAL SECURITY COMPANY FOR US$36.25 MILLION Further to the announcement of 6 April 2009 Cobham plc ('Cobham') has completed the purchase of the share capital of Argotek, Inc. ('Argotek'), a privately owned company based in the USA, for a consideration of US$36.25 million, comprising US$26.25 million payable in cash on completion on a debt and cash free basis, and a seller's note of US$10 million which will be payable in instalments on the first, second and third anniversary of completion. Argotek will become part of the Cobham Defence Systems Division and will operate under Cobham's existing US Special Security Agreements. Argotek provides high-end information assurance services to the US intelligence community. It is an excellent fit within Cobham Analytic Solutions' existing National Security Systems Sector, building on the successful acquisition of SPARTA in 2008 by adding technical depth and expertise and expanded customer relationships. Its core competences will be in demand for critical programmes, including the Comprehensive National Cyber Initiative, a major government-wide effort to strengthen US defences against electronic attack.
Bought 3000 shares yesterday out today for a £200 profit! Feel the FTSE is way overvalued at the moment 20day moving average is 4115 and today we are at 4500! Either a big fall(s) are coming or i am going to miss out! Saying that i am sure there will be good long term gains on this stock shame the div is so small though.
just topped up another 1200 at 167p. hopefully should get a good upward bounce on these as all good news in interim statement and divi day coming up

I am sitting and waiting for now. Price has been effected by BAE - sure it will bounce quite soon though. Hoping to get in under 170. Dividend provides some cover I think!
