Only in countries where Disney+ is not available will it be potentially given a cinema release. But a lot could change from now and then. I suspect Disney reacts to the negative sentiment and backtracks. I think Disney needed to release something to distract from the losses Coronavirus inflicted.
Not gonna spoil it for you all but I know what happens in this film.
Prayfor I remember seeing the lion king at the cinema as a child too, was incredible. Imagine seeing that only on the small screen, would be criminal.
From a personal perspective, Cinema is a magical experience. I loved going as a child. I remember watching LionKing at the cinema and afterwards begged my parents for the Timone and Pumba teddies. When the game came out on the megadrive, its the only thing I asked for on my Xmas list. I highly doubt it would have had the same effect on me if I were to have watched it on the family 30inch bulky TV. Going to the cinema is not just about the quality of the picture and sound, its the wonder and joy that goes along with going out with your family, especially for children. Disney have made a mistake doing this i think, but that mistake won't be realised until later. For now, its going to hurt the SP.
Imo, PVOD will not be as successful at generating profits as the cinemas are. Not just for the movie gross profit, but also the merchandise sales that follow on after it, for years and years after the film has been released.
I cant wait to be able to take my young son to the cinema for the first time. Cinema deffo has a place in my heart, and I hope that the next generation will be the same.
1. Given this is a joint release: PVOD and Cinema it will go to address the long standing question: do you still need cinema if PVOD generates the type of money that puts to bed $40 BILLION a year in box office sales?
2. Should this tank in PVOD it will answer the experiment that PVOD doesn’t work. We saw this with Trolls 2. $100m in sales but an overall loss given the marketing and distribution costs were not covered. Further more the hype didn’t help sell the merchandise.
For example Mulan itself has been available online for months.
People dont have a cinema sized screen, equivalent sound system, selection of food establishments etc at home.
The occasion of going to cinema can NOT be replicated at home.
Like many other things in life.
How will we cope? Haha. He was such a close friend of mine, i'm gutted.
Deffo think cine will recover, but this news has given the shorters a massive boost for now. Hope I'm wrong, but can see a hefty drop tomorrow. I'm usually wrong though, so it will probably shoot up 10% now that I've given my opinion on it.
@PrayFor
Loool couldn't of said it better myself!
We all quake in our boots when he adds us to his "i'm not your friend anymore" list .......NOTTT LoLoL
@PrayFor
You keep posting your mind. That's what these boards are for!

I think you have a very, very good point. I dont think POTUS would like any film glorifying China being shown in theatres. Releasing on a streaming service avoids the fury of POTUS. Like Disney says, its a one-off. They are not abandoning cinema. They made that clear I think.
Makes absolutely zero sense. But good one.
If you can't see a drop in SP over this news then stop buying shares. Its a no brainer. Cine has dropped with no news at al, something like this is bound to have an effect.
Again, grow up.
Given this is a one off, I believe Cineworld should continue to play the movie.
Disney imo will loose a lot of money as this will be heavily pirated and streamed on the internet.
Again, it is my belief this was intentional to avoid embarrassment given the anti Asian/Chinese sentiment that is rife in the domestic market and to an extent world.
the only red your in is the little red dot on your head.. bell end .
My life is over, I've been added to a list that nobody gives a s%&t about.
If you can't cope with other peoples opinions, maybe stay off public posting sites?
Sad little man.
I am in the red so do not want the SP to go down, but this kind of news is deffo something that will cause us some pain.
Grow up.
For a number of years pretty much (if not all) movies have been there for people to access online at the same time or even before they hit the cinema.
Nothing in this changes the investment case for or against Cineworld.
“We’re looking at Mulan as a one-off, as opposed to saying there’s some new business windowing model that we’re looking at," said Disney CEO Bob Chapek.
This in my opinion suggests two things:
1. Disney are aware that there is a lot of anti Asian sentiment in the US because of the “China virus” as their POTUS puts it. Could this be a way of Disney avoiding embarrassment with Mulan, aware that it wasn’t going to get the type of reception it was hoping for?
2. The statement is clear. This is a one off.
We saw Cine drop 15% and then recover to being only 4% down.
Given Disney will release in cinemas as well as PVOD, and a one-off, this doesn’t suggest Disney is abandoning cinema.
Mulan will be available down my local pub for £1 a dvd on the day it’s realised on Disney+.
WTF are Disney thinking!
Pray what a crock of sh*t as if one movie will cause that.. what a bell end.. you've been added
Disney have always been a band of ruthless profiteering mercenaries. They’ll soon drop the price if no one is paying for it though.
Horrible news. We might see 30p tomorrow. Sad times.
A cineworld family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children is £23, one child ticket is £5.75 (atleast at my cineworld). So you'd have to have atleast 3 kids before it would be potentially be breaking even to watch it at home than the cinema?
Seems like it will hurt both disney and the cinemas...cinemas coz it might take away 15-20% of their viewers, disney because I can't imagine many people paying 30 dollars, and there is increased chance of piracy which will attract the type of person who is happy to watch it home more than the person who would prefer to watch it at cinema therefore hurting disney more.
It's properly annoyed me.
I've said enough.
Like I'm to take my kids to see Tenet during the school holidays...
Big screen is always the way for big releases.
Interestingly Tenet be8ng released around the same date ... let's see which grosses more !!
I think CINE can forget Mulan in its theatres. But that was always the rumour....so it's old news really.
CINE will probably be down tomorrow.... but it's only for this one Disney release.
