I mean let's face it... I had to wear a mask shopping and do track and trace at the pub... Those are the norms for the next 6 months.
Will scanning a QR code and wearing a mask in the open areas stop me seeing a film? No chance, no difference to anything else we all do as standard now.
SP prediction increased to 180... This will be fine, just bumpy for the next few months due to greedy film makers.
My feeling is with Cineworld half year report and AMC seeking new capital to survive. They are coordinating a move to get the studios to release blockbusters now. The studios must be nervous that if the cinemas go bust, they are sitting on billions of dollars of losses. Worth them releasing Black Widow, et al to test the waters..when Mulan figures come out in November and I presume will show a loss. As $300 million is needed to break even. We are in for interesting times. I am sure if Mulan figures are as bad as I think they could be, I expect Disney to announce a potential takeover of Cineworld as a nice distraction. It worked for them when announcing Mulan to be released on Disney+, the markets forgot about the $4.5 billion loss.
Simple message here is:
Without cinemas, Disney and the like, lose a tonne of revenue.
Keeping cinemas open is in thier interest.
I believe there is a huge opportunity for up selling.
Disney stores could be reduced in malls, given footfall to retail has dropped an instead cinema could be used to sell concessions, toys and MCU or Pixar affiliated merchandise like T-shirt’s, pens and even video games. Regal has refurbished their cinemas and they have the space for kiosks and stalls and to up sell. It would be a great opportunity for Disney and I’m sure they have their brightest looking at this.
You make a great point RS particularly as Disney already have previous with this approach at their themeparks. I pity the poor parents/grandparents having to part with their money lol.
RS is right, anyone who knows the Disney business model it's all about synergy. The films advertise the theme parks and the merchandise. Disney want to become the one stop shop for family entertainment. They have built an empire based on nostalgia and what inspires more nostagia than the movies.
They have also recently experimented in reducing retail space in the states by having smaller disney store floor space in Target stores which have been very successful. This proves they have an interest in having smaller key retail spaces in other venues and where better than the place people have just seen the latest Disney, Starwars or Marvel film. It's the equivalent of when people exit a ride at a Disney parks and leave through the gift shop.
If people like me can see the obvious benefits and synergies then 100% someone at Disney would have raised the idea wether they actually decide to pull the trigger or not is another matter but the idea isn't far fetched at all.
RS you’ve got me going. Just imagine having characters in attendance in costume. Must go Mrs V is calling me a saddo cos I am on that shares thingy website. She’s probably right ;-)))
Agree Cineworld and Disney have unique synergies
With covid changing the world, I think it's logical and makes business sense that film studios will end up owning cinema chains
I want at least £2 for my shares though !
