I just need to know if any chances if growth are screwed.
However I don't understand this move as mulan is Disney most expensive film at around 200m+ their going to loose money with marketing on top. People can also sue Disney for making them pay above 5.99. And I'm pretty sure people will pirate thus film which is bad for Disney but ppl will still go to cinemas for imax and 4dx. I'm very confused. The funny thing is I invested all my money and want to sell now to renew my Disney plus subscription but can't as I've lost £42
Even taking into account AMC is marginally down after hours, I would say the news has definite obvious negatives but also a slither of a positive. The positive being that some investors wouldve doubted Mulan being on the cinema at all. This has at least created some certainty over this specific film. Combine this with a couple of marginal gains the last couple of days and the fact Tenet is getting decent publicity. I dont think this will be catastrophe in terms of SP, especially when considering its 30 dollars to watch at home?! Realistically though the market may also worry that Disney may now do this with every film until a vaccination arrives.
Guessing now the night before I'm gonna say marginally down tomorrow. However, if it tanks to 32p then probably wouldn't be shocked at that either.
I do not think Mulan is that good, going by the trailers. Disney released Artemis Fowl onto Disney+, albeit for free..That cost in the region of $100 million. They are trying to still release movies into the cinema while also building the Disney+. But if Mulan does not match the revenue generated by Tenet, the market will see this as a bad move by Disney. Sp will fall on this news. Then when Mulan bombs and Tenet soars. The SP will rise and studios SP will fall. Why pay £30 as will probably be priced in the UK for a rental. I have no ambition to watch it, but if I did, I will watch it for free on the Internet. My mates watched the Mandalorian for free before Disney+ launched in the UK. Each episode was available to watch shortly after they came out in the States. I expect this will happen with Mulan as well.
All digital content is available minutes after It's first available to stream, cut and dry.
It's been that way since the days of Napster, Soulseek and µtorrent giving access to music files.
Digital piracy is rampant. There's no stopping it.
I think Mulan will be a big hit... I'll admit I was shocked and a little surprised at Disney, this is clearly one big grand experiment to test the waters. Even CEO Bob Chapek said in interview...
"He called Mulan a one-off — though he said they are planning to “learn from” the unique offering."
This is Disney hoping they can have their cake and eat it, see if people will choose to go to the Cinema to see it and subscribe to Disney+ and pay the extra $30 to watch it again. So if it takes away from anything i would likely say it takes away from some repeat Cinema viewings.
They will come to find that they are canabalising their own business model that has served them so well in the past. They are putting barriers up which will prevent them claiming future box office records, something they take great pride in.
Despite Mooky's stance he is likely to find a way to justify including Mulan, it's in his interest to show box office takings are superior to VoD. How this impacts the SP? Who knows, we may take a hit but the confirmation of a release date is good. This is difficult to judge, i have mixed feelings.
