profit, is due to the neglect of the UK customers current accounts Originally three percent for a five pound charge now one and a half percent for the same charge.!!!! Much better deals available now for UK.customers in the other banks, so the twenty thousand holdings are being transferred around the other banks current accounts and regular savers. Very bad PR. on behalf of the Botin family!!!
in my opinion is the political situation in Spain, but far more relevant than this, the fall in profits from the "jewel in the crown", Santander UK, down 23%, a large fall by anyone's standard I sold the remains of my holding at 5.05 3 months ago, with the intention of buying back in at around 4.50. A lack of funds, thankfully, prevented this, and now I am unsure what my re-entry point should be. Think I will await the settling of the dust which may be as low as 3.25 to 3.50. At that point the divi, even with withholding tax at 20%, is still in excess of 5% if maintained at it's present level. From my privileged position I await the outcome.
This is what probable caused the fall in Santander shares on Friday. SPAIN is facing the possibility of a snap general election this year as the ruling Partido Popular become increasingly engulfed in scandal. It comes a day after the PPs former treasurer Luis Barcenas was convicted in the Gurtel Case, the countrys biggest ever corruption probe. Rajoy has now been told by the opposition that it would be tabling a no-confidence motion in the prime minister. Ciudadanos, the centre-left ally that the conservative PP need to govern, has said Rajoy must call a snap election or it too will file a motion of no confidence. It comes after a string of former PP leaders were convicted yesterday for a combined 351 years in prison for crimes including falsifying accounts, influence-peddling and tax crimes.
I have made the same point several times. What we don't really know is was it a whim (hubris?) on the directors part, or was there governmental arm twisting going on, favours called in or promises made? Not that it makes any difference to us poor P.I's, we end up as always taking a haircut. When Botin said it was a "perfect fit" we didn't realise that she meant "fit" in the brainstorm sense, which is what the board must have collectively had. This share is, or was the largest part of my portfolio, but no longer as BP has fallen slightly less. Who'd be a private investor?
The difference between shares bought and sold has only slightly varied around the 8 million mark all day as it was at the close; the price though was even lower during the day than it is now. This is what happens when senior management on a whim, buys a defunct bank and all of its debt for a 1, it was always going to end in tears for the investors. Within a few weeks of the purchase, ones holdings had lost 10% of their value, with reimbursement being in the region of a scanty 1.5% for those not offered the option of buying the new shares at discounted prices. At close today the share stood at 435p, Investors are now looking at a drop of over 20% since the purchase of Banco Popular. Having said all that the Spanish and Italian stocks fell sharply today, and apparently in Spain Mariano Rajoy is facing a vote of no confidence over a corruption case involving members of his party. (Surely that cannot be true? In Spain? Never.
Is it just me or is there literally millions of pounds worth of after hour trades today?
The dividend increased in 2017. At this year's AGM it was agreed to increase the dividend again from 2019 but with only two cash payments throughout the year.
The "dragging" effect of the Banco Popular takeover? The share is drifting lower, lower, ever lower and there is nothing from the board in terms of a clear strategy. Share price heading south and dividends cut massively. Not a good share to be in at the moment. Decision time. GLA
The simple reason is the IBEX is 2000 points off year highs !!!!!! Divi raised and I reckon it's nearly time they floated on the FTSE at these levels would be no. 4or5 on the FTSE100. Although I think a flotation in America could also be on the cards???? But not both !!!
Does anyone on here know why the price fell back after the Q1 2018 Results were published, especially when we are approaching an ex-dividend date? i.e. why didn't the market like the Q1 2018 Results? Like d'Oylee I was looking forward to a sustained rise to ex-divi date!
It will be interesting.to see the price rise
Banco Santander Launches Blockchain-Based International Money ... bankinnovation.net-1 hour ago Spain's Banco Santander Bank today launched Santander One Pay FX, a blockchain-based international money transfer service across four countries. This new service is the first of its kind, according to the bank, and was developed by blockchain firm Ripple. The service is available to retail customers in ...
You must remember this is on the Spanish market. So totally dependent on what happens on the IBEX. At these prices its an absolute bargain
Low can this go?
Big F when are you going to realise this share trades in a range. Every time its in the 170-185 its a buy ready for the rise into the next divi That way you wont get caught after the divi like the other guy.
Over 5 million shares sold late today. So what do they know and don't tell us?
Seems it's bail out time as over 1.3 million shares sold after hours.
The clue is in the handle! But yes you are right, immediately ex dividend. Sadly not taken my own advice.
LongSufferin can I ask you what you mean by "The trick is to sell at the very last moment to make sure you get the divi." Surely you have to sell at the first moment of the ex-dividend date in order to retain the dividend and you have to hope that the SP has not fallen immediately?
LongSufferin are you a carpetbagger then?
LongSufferin are you a carpetbagger then?
Are you kidding BIGfatty. This happens every time there's a divi payout. The trick is to sell at the very last moment to make sure you get the divi. Any extraneous factors merely distort it more. The share price has little regard to the actual worth of the company and how it's doing.
Going down. So does anybody know why, or is it just a generalised 'worldwide' sell off?
Here to make money not be loyal. 485 is the next buy point. Unless the crash happens before then. After what happened on the Dow yesterday you never know?? See what happens to loyalty if/when it happens lol
Couldn't be the carpetbaggers baling out having stayed long enough to pick up the divi could it?
