Positive news flow - contract win plus product development news
Apology for political digression. I should stick to price earnings ratios.
Peace not likely, since ukraine only speaks to its chums. Strange to hold a peace conference with people who agree with you, whilst refusing to speak to your enemy, which is the only person with whom a deal can be done . Apparently in a few months the result of the conference will be given to russia for consideration. I think if they gave zelensky a rifle and told him to get to the front there would be talks with putin the next day. As it is, he had his backpack ready
I would just hold while ukraine war continues, and sell if negotiations start. Is that too simplistic ? Maybe
Over the past 10 years or so whenever I've invested in AVON it has ended in tears. Now, owing to a senior moment, I've done it again. I really should know better. You have been warned.
21 May 2024
WE ARE MAKING EXCELLENT PROGRESS TOWARDS OUR MEDIUM-TERM GOALS AND ARE INCREASINGLY EXCITED BY THE GROWING MOMENTUM IN OUR TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME.
This morning we announced our half year results for 2024 which confirmed we have delivered a strong first half and our transformation is gaining momentum.
Jos Sclater, Chief Executive Officer, commented:
“We are making excellent progress towards our medium-term goals and are increasingly excited by the growing momentum in our transformation programme. The results in H1 demonstrate that our strategy is working and pace is increasing, though we still have a lot to do. The work we have done so far to drive improvement has revealed further opportunities for operational improvement; this reinforces our confidence that we will deliver our medium-term goals.
“We are seeing a growing awareness of the importance of high-quality protection against chemical warfare and head injury. In particular, Russia’s deployment of chemical weapons in Ukraine has highlighted the need for effective respiratory protection. As the leading supplier of mission-critical head and respiratory protection to the US Department of Defence and other NATO countries, we are well positioned to help protect the people who are protecting us.
“More broadly, I am very pleased that we now have a much stronger business that is delivering on major programmes and is improving fast. We have moved quickly into execution phase of our STAR strategic plan and are already seeing productivity improvement, new contract wins and further innovation to revolutionise our world leading product portfolio.”
I'm totally in and think 10 percent up tomorrow ; you can tell me I'm a idiot tomorrow
Hi Ripley, looks like we have had a similar - and sometimes difficult journey with Avon. I bought at the beginning of September 2021 and sold at the end of that month at a very modest profit. Bought in again a few days later (thought I acted hastily in selling - as I felt it had M&A written all over it) and have bought dips, and dips, and dips ever since. Jos and Rich have been a God send and I sense they are turning it around. However, the market is fickle and I suspect tomorrow will be a serious test. Have talked myself out of profit taking all week in search of bigger gains - due to the current conflicts and the decent contracts they are winning. This afternoon's drop was very dissapointing and I'm hoping it was just a bit of profit-taking. I'm looking at reducing, don't want to be out fully until I feel the time is right. Did you cash out completely? Fingers crossed for tomorrow (for anybody left in), as it should be a good year if the numbers are decent.
Sold today for 1300p not sure if they paid divs
Aprox 23% on buy over 2 years 7 months .
12/11/21 BUY 1050
10/11/21 1900p
30/11/20 4625p 5 year high.
I agree with your statement: 18-May 07.34
Nice. Me too, I bought on 18th March so have seen a 33% rise already. Usually my buys go the other way ("come second" as we say in the legal world!). 😂
Actually a easy call... wars... talk of nuclear...now chemicals...sp somewhat down historically...perfect and obvious
Anyways, I am happy bunny as up 40 percent in about 6 months , not a bad return
Do you mean that my comment regarding chemicals is misleading ? Or do you mean that you agree that the chemicals are pushing the price up ?
Why would investors suddenly realise day before ?
Just because something is illegal is no problem. As my old headmaster used to tell us, it is ok as long as you are not caught...still I am no expert and you may well be right. I just can't help being a cynic about the markets, especially when money involved. Anyway, it is tomorrow that counts... figures crossed.
SirT, I agree, I also think the comment made earlier that the Russians are planning/could be using chemical weapons (disappointingly) [though not verified] is buoying the SP
Suppose the prime minister demand for crash helmets and body armour must be taking off
That would be illegal. Much more likely that buyers are speculating on good results/forecasts tomorrow.
Day before results , somebody knows something
Reports Russians using chemicals in ukraine. Surely a positive for avon, if true
Realised the results are due next Tuesday not today... apologies for the error
I have long expected a takeover.... would be brilliant if it was for £30/share....
If the results tomorrow cause a drop I may top up (only if it falls below my average)
Fingers crossed
I am gearing up for a £30 takeover now the company is cleaning up it's act.
Looks like everybody is gearing up for a cracking set of interim results on the 21st
