Omg just heard on the news there could be upto 4000 deaths a day. Surely emergency approval is a must now?
Thanks for sharing this EwanRef. This tells me we now have full government backing with support from the task force. Urgent public health status now granted and possible inclusion into recovery+ in the comming weeks once the p3 is ready to go. This is excellent news!!
Thanks for sharing EwanRef. That is the most helpful MP reply I have seen. Also it is further evidence that we are heading towards the Recovery trial, in addition to our own P3 (a good hedge) and also possibly the NIHR care home prophylaxis trial. I’m think the positive data will flood in and EUA will happen quickly.
Thanks EwanRef, we have seen a number of government responses on this board but yours is the most detailed so far. It looks like the government department has greenlighted more information to be shared with the public. Good signs!
Thank you for forwarding the correspondence from your constituent on the 4
th of August 2020
regarding COVID-19. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you.
We continue to work with our partners across the UK in our efforts to tackle COVID-19. There is a
single UK process to support commercial COVID-19research via UK research and innovation. You
can read more about it here.
Additionally, Should a company wish to set up a trial with the NHS in Scotland, advice and support is
available through NHS Research Scotland.
Regarding Synairgen plc specifically, they are not currently receiving any support from the Scottish
Government directly, as they are Southampton based and have not applied to conduct any trail in
Scotland.
I hope you find this information helpful and would be grateful if you could pass it onwards to your
constituent.
Yours sincerely
JEANEFREEMAN
Thank you for your correspondence of 4 August on behalf of your constituent, Mr Ewan
C, about treatments for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). I have been asked
to reply, and I apologise for the delay in doing so, which has been caused by
unprecedented volumes of correspondence in recent months.
I appreciate Mr Cs’ concerns.
Synairgen are currently running SG016, a phase II trial in hospitalised and at-home
patients with COVID-19. The interim results from the hospitalised cohort were released
earlier this year. This clinical trial was given Urgent Public Health status by the National
Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in March 2020 and was supported by the NIHR
Respiratory Translational Research Collaboration and the NIHR Clinical Research
Network in recruiting patients for their trial.
At present, no Government support is being provided to the Synairgen SG016 study,
which has been sponsored and organised by Synairgen Research Limited with support
from the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit.
Separately from the SG016 trial, the treatment is being considered for inclusion in the
government-funded RECOVERY+ trial platform, the largest randomised controlled trial for
COVID-19 therapeutics in the world, with over 14,000 patients enrolled as of 19 October.
Synairgen will also be testing their inhaled treatment in a phase III trial which has received
an Urgent Public Health designation from the NIHR. This trial will focus on patients
hospitalised with moderate COVID-19, however the trial is still in the set-up phase.
The Therapeutics Taskforce will continue to work with Synairgen to understand how the
UK Government can support Synairgen moving forward. With the understanding that rapid
identification and prioritisation of therapeutics for COVID-19 is essential to ensure that
patients have access to effective treatments.
Evening folks.
Had written to my local Scottish MP a few months ago and have just received replies. One from the UK government and one from the Scottish. Synairgen was my first share and I've enjoyed investing since. Hope the world gets a world class therapeutic and that the shareholders are rewarded too. Sorry if similar MP replies have already been posted....
