@TF - "...Could it mean another grant to Scancell is likely ? "
Purely IMO, I think this could possibly be past the stage of a another small grant from the government, this could be further along the line than that (in the background), i say that because:
- The Cobra manufacturing deal.
- The new recruits with home office experience.
- And now Vulpes converting their loans.
Something has changed in the last few days and there has been some movement RE Covidity...again IMO.
Also obviously the government would have got headwind of this report before it was released to the general public, and I assume the likes of Scancell/Nottingham Uni would have heard on the bio grapevine about these results before they were released today?
I wonder if it was government employees in the know who were buying late today ;)
LLass tks. WTP . . . surely the Govt. have to take this on board - the report puts all the leading vaccine trials under a cloud does it not ? Could it mean another grant to Scancell is likely ? It seems a decisive study so who knows ?
I've just pasted that Sky link, June 11th in the DT comments section for fun.
I agree WTP , I believe we are now hearing about failed trials, and hearing less about the Big Pharma trials as this unravels.
The sudden rush for Scancell shares as seen by our Vulpes and Redmile could well for the purpose of timing be because we are gaining scientific backing for our science. Just MO
Thomas Moore on sky news approx 10min ago, saying something along the lines of "antibodies may not be the answer when it comes to a vaccine".
IMO focus is going to change very quickly now.
WTP....see Prof. Cook at Imperial College London, just been on news again, seems antibodies last even less in the over 65 population.
WTP, after lunchtime. Have you not noticed there has been very little excitement about the early trials?? As LL has just said Sky News just report on lockdown and the U,S,A election,
IMO todays news will really put the Scancell/DNA/T-cell approach right to the fore now.
I do wonder if activity behind the scenes RE Covididty is what prompted Vulpes to covert those loan notes yesterday?
@C7 - you mentioned a univeristy of Anglia proffesor on Sky news, almost describing Covidity to a tee, any more details? what time was this on?
I wonder/hope this will create some extra(?) impetus for the Scancell/T-cell approach by the government, for the sake of the elderly at the very least.
Saying that though, we don't know what is going on in the background, but we know they are recruiting additional scienctific staff that need to have home office/government experience, so maybe things are moving fast(er) than we think?
Yeah, It does seem that scientists are waking up to the fact that antibodies may not be enough to defeat Covid19 in the old and vunerable.
Memory TCells last for years rather than weeks or months.
Miavoce - thanks for posting....
The important points for me:
- The fall was greater in those over 65, compared with younger age groups, and in those without symptoms compared with those with full-blown Covid-19.
- Exactly what the antibody drop means for immunity is still uncertain. There are other parts of the immune system, such as T-cells, which may also play a role, directly killing infected host cells and calling to other immune cells to help out.

It will be really interesting to hear the data when one of the RNA/DAN CTs get published.

This seems to play in favour of Scancell's vaccine. Seems that the presence of antibodies falls quite quickly after infection.
