Somewhat O/T, but here's another useful repurposing for 'Track and trace ' :
.."Week by week the costs of Test and Trace are adding up. Not only are thousands of contact-tracers being employed, but there are the economic, social and educational costs of ordering people to stay at home.
The resources being sunk into the system would be much better used in tracking down people who have not yet been vaccinated (32 per cent of black over-fifties have not been jabbed, compared with 6 per cent of white) and finding out if anything would persuade them to have the jab..."
IMO
I particularly like this bit :
.."taking the first steps towards digitising the clinical research process to make it faster and cheaper by beginning to create a holistic data-enabled Find, Recruit and Follow-up service..."
Given the prospective shortage of naive (ie uninfected) CHIM volunteers - as we approach 'herd immunity' throuch natural infection and vaccination rollout - perhaps we could re-purpose the otherwise ineffectual 'Track and Trace' system to locate THESE people...
;->
Can only be good for Orph. I fully expect the government contract to be an ongoing relationship over the next decade, very positive!
ryan - or more positively, lets hope that those faster ethics reviews and approvals get trials moving quicker and benefits to patients sooner. ORPH is very well placed to contribute.
Especially this:
-the development and trial of new COVID-19 treatments and vaccines
-making UK clinical research delivery easier through more rapid ethics reviews and faster approval processes
Given how difficult it will be to find naive volunteers (un-vaccinated) after the UK's successful vaccine rollout - this has to indicate human challenge trials as a way forward.
This looks very good for ORPH
