I am not qualified to comment, Steadydanny.
They are all crowded onto the beach. I noticed laughter from inside my local pub, curtains now in place so you can't see in. Lock-ins. The real question is whether Cummings' actions affected the public’s adherence six weeks ago when we were at ‘the peak’. Clearly not because they didn't know; those who claim they saw him kept quiet until they could make more mischief/money, or the Guardian held it back for the same reason. People aren't going mad the last fortnight because of what some civil servant did (within the rules)
That's true and hope that politics plays no part in the case Nanoco v Samsung.
Hope everyone can read the messages and does not intend to do a round trip of 60 miles in their car to test their eyesight.
That would be truly irresponsible !!!

General world politics may well affect Nanoco, your views on politics or historical leaders doesn't, there are plenty of other forums where you can post about that.
amerloque do you think the same of Online Blockchain? Given the recent political forum in China, I'd say they will be a target unless the UK adopts policies of company purchases like some of Eurpean counterparts.
I agree, Screenlearner, that we should leave politics off or this site. My apologies, but I was not the first to get political. I felt it necessary to stress the danger of British technology being controlled by China. Quantum Dots and nanotechnology are the future. As much as I want to maximize my investment, I recognize that Nanoco is indebted to Great Britain. They might not exist today had they not received funding from the British government. It does disturb me that British politicians have allowed the cadmium resolution to drag on for so long. Nevertheless, I am willing to accept less to keep Nanoco from falling into Chinese hands and to insure that people of GB benefit accordingly. I also recognize that Brexit solutions will require out-of-the box solutions and searching for commonality of interests.
I agree in a general sense Screenlearner but politics does affect Nanoco.
amerloque, I 100% agree with those examples of the Chinese leadership's mistreatment of their people and that Gorbachev was a great man (Reagan by the way was a terrible person). The left turn to Russia is bizarre though. Yeltsin was a disaster for the Russian people but he was an exercise in freedom and democracy. For a freedom loving American to advocate for a mass murdering dictator over him and claim to like Britain while wanting to build ties with someone who has used radioactive and chemical weapons on the streets of British towns is shocking. I hope I'm misreading your comment and apologise sincerely if I am. By the way, all those things about China are exactly what I was saying the world should be concentrating on but what Trump is preventing us from doing.
My view is that politics should be kept out of share chat boards as much as possible, although I do understand that our relationship with China could affect the chances of them wanting to buy Nanoco. However ****ging of leaders of other counties should be done, if at all, in a different, political, forum not here.
I respect you, Basscadet, but I don't agree with your Trump comment. Since you raise it, I must say that Americans (Trump included) love and respect the Brits and wish them well. They also appreciate freedom loving Asian people. While I have made negative comments regarding Samsung in the past, I frequently work with, like and admire Asian people, particularly the Taiwanese, Hong Kong, South Korean and Japanese people.
Chinese mainland citizens, having grown up under Communism, often fail to understand and appreciate that Laissez Faire systems cannot succeed without personal self-sacrifice and recognition of consequences and the importance of treating others as you would want them to treat you. Sadly, many free-world citizens and Americans have lost sight of this. Too often, large companies (American companies, as well as Samsung) afford an anonymity that allows and even encourages employees to behave in despicable ways they would never do face-to-face. This also applies to citizens of countries.
Undeniably, China has not played fair, pushing for globalism while locking up global resources. How can Great Britain or anyone else trust a country that covered up the Wuhan corona-virus while monopolizing protective gear and PURPOSELY allowing hundreds of thousands of people to travel from locked-down Wuhan to the USA and the rest of the world in January and February? Also, how can the UK or the world accept and possibly reward China's reneging on the Hong Kong treaty?
You are right that Brexit has made the UK somewhat dependent on the US. Brexit, however, creates many opportunities, including working with the USA to create stronger ties to Russia. Europe and the USA both failed Russia and Gorbachev, a truly courageous and great leader, by leaving Russia on its own to endure Boris Yeltsin, terrible misery and mafia rule instead of helping them emerge from communism. It is time for us to work together to correct this and bring Russia fully into the free world. The alternative, an increasingly imperialistic and militaristic China united with Russia, would be disastrous. A western world united with Russia would be a better world.
Finally, while I wish that Trump weren't so petulant, it is become increasingly clear that the world press has relentlessly sought to overturn Trump's legitimate presidency from before he took office.
It's politics at it's worst practiced by the most incompetent government in my lifetime. British companies who do business with China might well suffer. It's got nothing to do with the pandemic. We need a US trade deal because we have put ourselves a Brexit induced state of desperation. They have a lunatic in charge who is using all the leverage at his disposal to bash China in at attempt to win re-election regardless of how damaging it is. We're caving to that pressure because we have to.
Working with and in China isn't a national security threat. There are simple ways to protect against digital spying. Things all major companies and government agencies have to do anyway such as using robust encryption. Decoupling from China will be immensely damaging. In the meantime we can't apply proper pressure on the real issues - IP theft, forced technology transfer and opening up on the economic side; and human rights.
I think this is a bad road to go down for all out investments TLWilliams but with intellectual ****raoches like Iain Dunca-Smith busily scurrying around on the backbenches it's one I fear we will travel down.
It would appear that Nanoco can forget about any investment from China on a ‘tit for tat’ basis, if the UK Government choose to carry out the threat of Project Defend ( below - part of a recent Guardian article ). However, this might mean that they will be prepared to invest in leading edge companies in the technological sector instead?
“ Senior ministers also want to reduce the UK’s economic dependance on China for essential goods in the light of the crisis and have begun to draw up “Project Defend” aimed at boosting British self sufficiency in strategic medical and technological sectors – following warnings from intelligence agencies that the UK needed to reassess its relationship with China.”
Just sent a note to my MP broadly briefing him on the issue and requesting he talks to the Secretary of State for industry re the proposed South Korea UK free trade area.
I suggest we all do something similar.
I have admire your optimism Nige......
The Court Case is being heard in East Texas - not South Korea, so will not take long to settle.
Some time ago people were talking about fast tracking and quick settlements in East Texas.
Personally I think Samsung will settle with Nano before 2nd June with a big Contract and damages (but more probable they will buy nano).
It was an in joke for BtB, In truth I have absolutely no idea, but in the past within hours of me saying on this board I thought it unlikely they would issue an RNS, they did so. Hence if I say they won't .. then maybe they will! Which is whyI'm now saying they won't!
Screenlearner . Are they working on double time? A RNS on monday?
Sec of State for Trade - forgot who it is ??
OMG had to look it up - it's that awful woman Truss !!
Considering the state of the economy, especially regards manufacturing and high tech , I would have expected her or one of her minions to have shown some interest in the case a long time ago - maybe not.
Agreed. Three possibilities. First, a new contract - few of those over the years, fantastic if it arrives but it would defy experience to expect it. Second, funder of the legal case - I agree with others this is more likely to be put in place and announced after Samsungs reply to the court case has been seen on or around 2 June. Third, settlement with Samsung - I don't expect any Samsung manager to advise the company to admit fault because of the importance Koreans are said to attach to not losing face. I expect an out of court settlement in four or five years time when Samsung are losing the court case. There is a very good chance it will be worth waiting for even though a large chunk of the proceeds will go to the lawyers; and some dilution between now and then can be expected.
Meanwhile there will be trade talks between the UK and South Korea. Should anyone be minded to raise the case with the Government before those talks begin I advise writing to your MP asking them to raise the matter with the Secretary of State for Trade. The MPs office will then forward the letter to the office of the SOS Trade who will deal with it as an MPs case. So the reply will be seen and signed by the SoS and the MP. If you write direct to the SoS they are unlikely to see your letter while you would be likely to get a reply from a junior official. If others are interested I suggest waiting to see Samsungs reply; liaising with Nanoco and then lobbying individually with consistent points.
just 14 trades today with a total total less than £10ths. Really! The slience is deafening.
Referrring to a discussion on this forum from long ago that perhaps only BtB will understand.: I confidently predict there won't be any meaningful RNS either today or Monday! Ha Ha worth trying.
