I shall have a gander. The only 3 things that now separate us from the 1930s is a very big anti-left movement (although we are seeing the birth of that). A depression (Hmm nearly there) and a war beginning (Tensions are high looking at world affairs and the doomsday clock) It’s as if someone read the book and thought what a great read that was, I wish I was alive in them times. Well I for one don’t. It really does come to something when your average nut job conspiracy theorist seems to have their finger on the pulse. :)
keltickilla, you echo the thoughts of many and there is plenty to chew over. The well written submissions to be found on the lockdownsceptics.org site give much food for thought.
Sorry for bugging in here. It seems to me that the only common sense thing to do when COVID became imminent was to furlough those in the high risk groups and guarantee them rights. Those not in the at risks group should keep going to work etc but enforce social distancing and safety measures like masks etc. It has been the case always that those who are able protect those who are not. Wether that be through actions of defence or financial. Now out of all this, not only will we see around 3 million people unemployed but we will also see 50 odd million people poorer and having to adjust their retirement plans etc. Next year HMG will announce a work until you drop policy I’m sure. A cash less society free of the burden of un-taxable cash and have yet more control, power on society. Is it a coincidence that national lockdown will coincide with Boris’s biggest Uturn yet Brexit, somehow I think not. Is it a coincidence that huge money is being made on the self imposed crash of the markets I don’t think so. Any idiot could have created a path with less destructive consequences if they had so wished. The question should be asked why was common sense not employed here? Was it for fear of the journalistic view point? Has this all been carefully choreographed from the outset? Does Russian and Chinese relations have anything to do with it? Trade battles and protectionism perhaps? Just something to chew over for a Saturday morning. Have a good weekend all.
BBLS not SBBL
furlough was not generous, SBBL, business loan schemes had not been administered properly, lots of fraud.....
care homes took the money, then realised it was a problem.
Initial outbreak ,what happened in care homes was an absolute disaster. financially furlough far to generous, unsustainable
Onlyif,
I like most had respect for way the Govt handle the initial outbreak albeit the UK had been late into lock-down; however, the financial support had for the most part been good and swift.
The Lockdown was not policed, it was not strict enough. Wuhan had been very strict and it took 12months for them to get back to normality. The UK scientist are already talking more deaths up to March, April and the probability of more restrictions along the way....
Don't matter what rules you put in place if people don't do the right thing as we have seen ,then we have a problem, this is worldwide not just UK easy to criticise
It would have made more sense to do a month lockdown in Sept and then gradually re-open whilst the furlough scheme was in place, it's not like they did not have all the evidence back then......
nomlungu, thank you...

lockdown wednesday?
nomlungu, "Just leaked - National Lockdown starts on Wednesday - well done Boris the Clown.!"
?
Kids should have been made to wear masks in class and the Track & Trace system should have been better / delegated to local health care trusts and the GP system.
Software such as Documentum's eRoom could have been quickly set up to handle cases and the transfer of cases between Trusts. But they did not trust the Civil Service.
Just leaked - National Lockdown starts on Wednesday - well done Boris the Clown.
No counter balance measures put in place, we just came out of lockdown, free for all....
Lets hope we have a mild winter...
my daughter told me about a married couple who died within 3 hours of each on separate wards, truly heartbreaking...
Schools had to go back so parents could go to work, that was a well known fact, kids have always been known as super spreaders, pubs did their bit too, a couple of drinks and social distancing goes out the window.
It was the schoolkids that spread it. The pubs were open for a while and the cases levelled off.. as soon as schools opened we were shown exponential cuves.
I think schools should have stayed shut. Parent's jobs and the economy comes first. Maslow's hierarchy of needs.. food, heat, shelter.. education is at the top of the pyramid under psychological/self fulfilment.
