My ...... how times have changed!
Not so long ago yesterday's news of conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia threatening gas and oil pipelines to Europe would have been the catalyst for a raft of posts highlighting the pressing need for gas storage.
It seems that the PR department is starting to get moving today's tweet seems to indicate that INFA may be getting some positive publicity. Anyone know this show. https://twitter.com/Harland_Wolff1/status/1310602325694836737
Interesting one. The state of ship-building is such that I expect there often little to no profit in ship-building, and even when there is, these are more 'bonus' projects, whereas actually the less glitzy work such as maintenance provides the base-flow to keeping a yards overheads maintained.
The UK procurement strategy for ships has been woeful for decades- so really hope now there is renewed focus to get Britain building ships again- the state of our industry compared to our European competitors is shocking- yet we have proven we still have world-class capability in delivering the QE class aircraft carriers. Time to make us a proud maritime nation and put H&W Belfast and Appledore at the forefront of this renewed drive!!
This aside- hopefully we can see a healthy combination of building alongside repair and maintenance!
Ta for posting this Chris. It's great to get some knowledge on the actual works going on in the Yard. That's certainly specialised and comprehensive works that are being completed. The fact that these works weren't on the original scope of works is a bonus for H & W in getting this work.
It's been said by others previously (including myself), that maintenance contracts may not be the profitability earners that new builds could be. This is maybe an excellent example though that by taking ships in for a maintenance 'oil and filter change' , that this can lead to getting additional works and earnings.
'Great job, as you say Gareth Bowers it’s all about team work!'
Details posted by Gareth Bowers:

whatamess In relation to your 12.57 post that is the knid of information that would be trated as commercial in confidence. Having said that I note that INFA has been strengthening capacity to write tenders so I would say it is possible that a tender would have been made. Also as INFA is unlikely to win every tender they bd they may want to adopt a policy of bidding on all contracts so as to improve thier chances of winning enough contracts to sustain the business. One final observation these contracts are in the range that Appledore would want to bid for and which we were told t the time of the Appledore purchase there was not mch competition.
I am going to cross my fingers on this one.
That's the million dollar question whatamess. Its easy to forget we are still less than a year in the making. Have we ramped up enough to tender for this type of big work? I hope so. Imagine the joy St landing that contract!
On reading this tender notice carefully I note that there will be three lots each valued at £58m so if INFA was to bid for and win all three lots then the total contract value would be £178m. Also it would seem possible for the work undr this contract to be done at either Belfast or Appledore as he dry dock at both is long enough.
Someone else said that that over a year ago and look what happened since lol. Just stop being so selfish haha. On a serious note, don't forget that the prospectus that was produced a while back (the one where u had to tell fibs to read it and say you were managing a million quid fund) stated that in November navantia will be looking to produce wind turbines with us. Best of luck for us all, and yes, they blummin well should be bidding already for the contract you highlight :)
Jabido. I forgot to add, if H&W are not aware nor bidding for the Calmac contract I should be selling my shareholding!
Lol Jabido. Thanks for the praise but my days of hard work are behind me!
All I yearn for these days is wee little blessings like marine licenses, FID's, and MOD FSS contracts for £1B or so.........
Hope you have emailed that link to infa speedy, along with your cv as I'm sure you could do a good job! :)
Tender deadline is Oct 5 - I wonder if we've put in a bid? This would be a nice addition to the H&W portfolio.
3.5yr maintenance contract worth £58M just across the North Channel - very convenient for both H&W and Calmac, based in Gourock.

Probably more of a nudge as to "where is our work...Partner" :-)
Detailed below is a recent JW tweet - is this a hint?
'Some great work being delivered by our partner Navantia, great to be collaborating on various renewable opportunities.'

Edit: Great pictures.
Well Nearly time to wake up! it will be 6 months now that DAERA has had to form their opinion on the ML.
It is traditional to have fireworks in November, but I have a feeling October is going to be the defining month.
My Birthday is on the 30th September so an ML for my birthday would be very welcome indeed.
That's it from "GreenDay" welcome in the BLUE Days.....
And when the new PR person starts there will be a pair of twits ! LOL
It seems that someone in the PR department has realised that INFA has a twitter account this morning's tweet https://twitter.com/Harland_Wolff1/status/1309382081902972928
TTNY and Jabido. Beside whatever surprises lie instore for us re: Oceanxplorer, the linked article provides the info below for continued, and more detailed work, commencing around mid Oct...........
"Once STENA ESTRID has finished covering at Belfast, she is expected to return to her normal Holyhead – Dublin route in place of usual running-mate STENA ADVENTURER. This will allow ‘Adventurer’ to dry dock in Belfast for attention to ongoing issues. It is understood specially fabricated parts will be fitted during this dry docking to resolve these issues."

Originally built in Appledore. BMT to design the replacement after local consultation. But where to build???

Can't paste the link for some reason but he's advocating wind power on BBC website. More work for us potentially, particularly with our tie in with navantia
Bought more today. Been considering it for a while but hung off as things have gone quiet on IslandMagee.
The news today that a previous director of IslandMagee Storage limited, Stephen Roser, has bought more was enough to convince me positive news is on the way. Although no longer connected to INFA he will no doubt still have his finger o. The pulse regarding IslandMagee.

H&W seem to be on a hiring surge at the moment some new jobs are being advertised at teh sub board level. They all appear to be senior management. They can be found here https://www.harland-wolff.com/careers/ I note that the Head of Business Development Cruise is advertised as Freelance and is the only Freelance post I have seen.
Just seen this article from one of the Plymouth papers. There is very little new in it but some might find it of interest. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/plymouth-news/royal-navy-warships-u-turn-4537190
I so agree with you dawski37 & I believe it explains the large Buy yesterday.Onwards & upwards.
