It's a shambles.
Im a man very much on the Right on the political spectrum but the pay rises for top executives along with pay cuts for everyone else was shambolic. I have some sympathy for the strikers tbh. The working conditions are unbearable given the overbookings from what I have seen myself at airports recently.
The common theme is WTF, how can IAG management be sooo incompetent!
I wrote to them today explaining that their actions are irresponsible in light of the directors re-instating their pay. Just imagine ground staff strike then separately, cabin crew, then separately pilots. which ever way uou look at it all you need is 70% of each group to strike over alternate days to floor the airline! for weeks but still maintain reasonable pay!
I'm a big IAG holder but screw -ing the workforce is not the way to increase the SP value....
management need to be changed starting with the the one that sounds like a sinking spanish galleon...a bit like the SP...
gla
I know - it's bonkers. FTSE up 2.5%, USA airlines up 5-6%.
IAG/ EZJ down.
Seriuosly - WTF?
On a more positive note...
The US travel sector seems to be moving upwards.... fast!!
I've never understood why companies - and especially those in the customer service industries - seem to take pleasure in treating a lot of their staff like s**t. As well as being morally wrong, it makes no long-term sense. How expensive and time consuming is it to constantly be recruiting and training new people to replace disilusioned people who have left. Not to mention the impact on the standard of service being provided.
Listen to me with my antiquated notions of fairness and quality customer service! What a sorry old dinosaur I am. No wonder I feel so disassociated from the world around me.
I think so too Wannabe.
And the war will come to an end soon after I read this on sky news:
Russian troops in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia were left wounded after a goat set off a boobytrap of grenades they had planted.
Ukraine's chief intelligence directorate said the Kremlin forces had installed pinned grenades around a local hospital in village of Kinski Rozdory when an escaped goat from a nearby farm wandered towards the area.
The animal triggered tripwires set up by the soldiers and instigated a chain reaction.
At least 40 soldiers were injured due to the explosion.
" there is no limit to stupidity of big companies and their moronic bean counters...".
True dat. And I used to work for BA, so trust me, I have seen some of the incompetence/ stupidity/ laziness /arrogance / greed up close and personal. Nothing they do (or fail to do ) would surprise me. Which, to be fair, does beg the question "Why am I invested here?". A question I ask myself about 30 times a day.
PS - to be fair, a lot of the current and recent issues and problems are obviously way beyond their control.
Jtan, I do agree that striking is not the way to negotiate, reminds me too much of the 70's. I hated the 70's.
On the flip side, as someone with more clarity than I pointed out, how else will there ever be equality of pay if people do not stand their ground and demand a fairer wage? Not greed, but fairer. On this I am ok with.
As a company, you pay people a decent wage, you look after them and they will take care of your customers.
Also, knowing the 'work culture' of hourly workers in the UK, as a company they probably get their share of.. slackers and p155 takers?
sundezena, whilst I agree with what you are saying, just remember, there is no limit to stupidity of big companies and their moronic bean counters. Seldom do they see they big picture.
Scotty, I guess they will give them back the 10% they are owed as they are not asking for a 10% payrise. It would be silly no to when things are going back to normal and IAG is going to be profitable this year. Also, if they pay their staff an OK wage, they will stay longer, acquire experience and give a better customer service. That will translate in more people using the airline so I think they 10% will pay for itself. Strikes would cause them to miss a good summer again, can they really afford that??Not really! DYOR.
Very strong ftse but almost no bids for airliners. Strikes couldn't have come at a worse time.
I read that BA will be looking to resolve this, weather this is them chatting crap out of their ass we'll see. But one would hope BA see the opportunity cost in not reinstating a 10% salary cut.
