Folks just wanted to try and set down that the true prize here is the ability to add confidence both now and into the future of the ability to test for any viral activity in the remotest of regions on a global basis. That is why our company has sought WHO accreditation for HEP C. There will be other viruses. The value from an investor perspective is in the patent and the ability to test anywhere that a clinic is needed. Mr Gates has seen the need for malaria; others will see the need..... GLA and please DYOR
Switch out the reagents and it can do any, they already have tests for HCV which is another virus and I’m sure that DOD test will be for nasty viruses of one sort or another
Interesting. Are you saying that the USP of GeneDrive is that it can be used with ANY virus, given the appropriate gene marker input as the comparator? Or is it primarily, so far, just for potential use or testing covid-19 in the field?
10x would be a £70m mc, possibly if they get this right!
I don’t think so. They have a high throughout test that can be used in the same testing labs but that saves time because the test reagents are all lyophilised into the same tube (the other tests have the reagents separates) so you just add sample, then the same test is put on Genedrive as a point of care test so as well as running in the lab you can run outside the lab. It’s unique I think.
I keep seeing Twitter references to other minnow UK companies developing their own covid-19 diagnostic tests, and of course, someone is already supplying the NHS with the ones being ramped up now for testing of NHS front line staff. So isn't GDR in danger of being too late in this niche market? Even 8 weeks means they will be joining a queue behind others with commercial success.
X 10 WOULD BE VERY NICE INDEED!
And all the tests to follow once the platform is being used. If Genedrive manage this properly they’ll have a solid installed platform on which to future proof the business.
Let’s face it. At some point every person in the UK will need to be tested....that’s over 60million people just in the UK let alone worldwide! And that’s just one test per person....tests may need to be performed more than once per person!!!! Luckily GDR can ramp up production of kits to over 10,000 an hour!!!! To me the sp should be 10 x what it is now. There is a huge appetite for Coronavirus testing kits and that appetite will be here for some years to come! Mark my words!!!
I'd assume that one will be SureScreens kit as it's Derby based. Remember Ltd company's are in the race too as well as PLC's.
Make no bones about it, GDR's kit is going to be in high demand and their links with the US DoD mean that this kit will be high in demand, hence the high share reaction. Realistically, in 7 weeks, we're going to be looking at £1 a share here.
For once in my life, I find myself agreeing with Tony Blair. The world really has gone mad!

Could be that genedrive could be placed here?

I’ve been looking at the systems for molecular testing of COVID-19 as point of care. Genedrive is definitely the most portable and it’s use by the US DOD shows it’s portability. I’m excited to see progress, the amount of testing suggests lots of these will be needed and also in the future what tests could be put onto these once the pandemic is over. HCV, AIHL, TB.... what about other tests? If Genedrive could turn around Covid-19 in a couple of months it sort of suggests other tests could be done. HIV, HPV? I’m biased, I’ve held these shares a long time. Good to see this doing what it was built to do.
Agree, genedrive should technically be a better fit. Let’s hope for more good news next week.
And much quicker
Genedrive will be more portable/point of care, probably cheaper (I haven’t checked the price of the Bosch device) and almost certainly more accurate. Genedrive have achieved very high accuracy and specificity with their other tests. A 5% error rate is pretty big.
These are same as Randox units, they’re big, not point of care and the cost of goods look much bigger compared to Genedrive imo
