I was under the impression that all manufacturing took place at Dfs own factories in derby
What makes you think this is a very well run company when it run by an iron fist from the top and not incentives ! As a shareholder and in need of a new suite I went firstly to DFS and found a nice suite called Newbury and worked out the price of £3,400 and did not want to take up the offer of 4 years interest free credit by to pay cash, but in my own interested thought I would look at what competitors had to offer, so went into Fabbs which were 50 yards away and astonished to find the identical suite on show in identical covers, sizes , guarantees but their price was £3,100 with identical interest free offers, and a free delivery, and told by the sales person from Fabbs we know this is the identical suite and always stock it in the identical cover as DFS and undercut them in price and all the 'add-ons' so contacted DFS to ask " What was the companies policy to price comparisons " I pointed out this suite could be viewed 50 yards away from their store but the manager was not prepared to view for himself, just saying you must be wrong ! I then contacted DFS head office and told them they were being undercut by this competitor and what was their policy to price matching, they came back to say, we are fully aware we are being undercut, and we at DFS have one policy WE DO NOT PRICE MATCH EVEN IF ONLY £1 less, the customer either pays us our FULL asking price or told to buy from another competitor. As a shareholder this is not what I wanted to hear, I replied saying 90% profit is better than none !!, and told, " shareholders do NOT run this company, it's run by one man at the top, and what he say's goes !!!! It is obvious, if this is the man at the tops view, then in my view the man at the top is not working with the best interests of its shareholders, so have done what he suggested and sold my holding, as I want NOTHING to do with a company that has no morals, and during the next annual shareholders meeting, (which I wont not be attending ), having now sold my shares, but a member of the Press will be asking the question " Why don't DFS price match on identical items !, and why don't you act with the interest of your shareholders before your own personal ego ! In loyalty to my fellow shareholder here, I did purchased this suite from DFS and paid the £300 over the odds, this was never about the money, but the principle, and a company seen to be acting fairly, and also to let you fellow shareholder be aware of what happening, and if you feel happy to allow business to be given away then so be it, of if you think like myself, all companies should be seen to act fairly then ask, what are you going to about it, this is not just about the views of one man, shareholders have a right to have a say how the companies run, or do as I have and sold all.
I agree sofology is a good buy and with more stores and Dutch expansion into Eindhoven, revenue will increase and with margins better and refinancing saving £1m pa all bodes well for the next 6 months
Not a brilliant RNS but not as bad as i expected....this is still a very well run company and now with sofology in the mix I expect we will do very well......
It is now lol ,should of gone to
Been rumors circling for a while but not a done deal as yet
I must have had my head in the sand because i never new we were buying Sofology cant believe i didnt see any news on this......anyway i think its a fantastic aquistion and a great price this should shift the SP.....no mention anywhere of sofology being bought ....did anyone else know....lol im getting paranoid now....
great management great company just a little time needed to recover from that announcement regarding sales blip....oh and a joke of a P\E like i said before this is being pulled back with all retail.....
Seated now nd watching dfs adverts, but not on a dfs sofa thou lol
Watching and waiting
''return to the 2.40s soon'' and then the alarm clock rang!!!
HSBC buying, also worth noting in May shorts were at 7.5% some of these might be bought back at these levels as the shorters in profit. This is a strong business and the profit figures look alright to me. I expect this to return to the 2.40s soon.
I was also caught offguard by the profit warning. It was a poor call, as the whole retail sector was affected--not just DFS. If they hadn't made the announcement I'm sure the market would have corrected the price in line with other retailers. Instead, we are stuck with a 22% loss and a gradual return to the true level, which one analyst says is 245.
10 weeks ago everything was rosy, special div and all. How it changes so quick. Hardly a profit warning though but the market likes that sort of update. I only invested for the divi now i'm screwed, last time I will do that!
but from there where will it go? I think £1.50 is on the cards.
Over 21% so far, trading update has done no favours.
I agree but there's still a few weeks to go until early June when it goes ex....I also think most investors are still avoiding UK retail. Key for me is have LFL's stayed positive through Easter and early May for DFS, because brokers have H2 LFL's going negative and also for next year.
Surprised not to see more daily volume on this, worth it for the divi alone.
This will be above £3.00 before ex-divi
I agree Compass, just taking some time for this stock to really get going, i think sentiment towards UK retail sector remains very poor, and there's still some churn post the very large placings from Advent. When they announced record results before Brexit, the stock was over 350, now they announced record H1 results and a big dividend, and the stock is 270...
WOW...expect blue today......ex Greggs chairman on board....fantastic appointment.
Still think this is a sceaming "buy" but dont think they helped themselves setting the ex-divi date so far ahead...13.5p is nothing to be sniffed at, I now see a scramble and rise just before that date, we shall see........
Just to add for balance....I dont think you should ever buy into a stock just for the Divi.....however this offers both good divi and growth......
Yes ex divi date will be around 31st May probably the reason for no rush to buy in...but like I said however you look at this after those results and the special divi and the ridiculous PE this is a conviction buy for me....I think this is being roped in with the rest of retail thus a muted effect on the SP.....but like I said this is not your standard retail outlet it offers much more and the fundementals are in great shape....I would expect a rush to buy at some point well before 31 may if the sp stays at this level.....
Thanks Bobby - I am just wondering though if the special dividend is only payable to shareholders who held the shares when it was announced this morning and only the interim dividend is payable on the 21st June?? C
