Thank you very much. Yes congrats to Sotolo. Life will be more interesting.
Hi MrBoongboong!
Yes, I believe that anybody who was holding the stock at close of play yesterday will get the dividend, and that you can sell now (if you want) and you will still get the dividend payment. I assume going ex-dividend is part of the reason the stock is trading lower today.
The next big date in my Centamin calendar is 15/9, when the results of the Egyptian exploration licence round should be announced. If Centamin get their chosen ground (and why not, considering their first mover advantage in Egypt), that could really boost the share price.
Finally, my congratulations to Sotolo on tying the knot!
Am I wrong about this, I understand that the rules to get dividend is:
As long as you purchase a stock prior to the ex-dividend date (13AUG), which is yesterday. you can then sell the stock any time on or after the ex-dividend date and still receive the dividend. A common misconception is that investors need to hold the stock through the record date (14AUG) or pay date.
Congratulations ...hope the day goes magificently ...like our Centamin investment. :-) Love the rational logic re warring extended family and using gold performance for dream home too:-)
Sotolo,
Delighted to hear that it is a real wedding and even more delighted to hear that you have been with her for many years, otherwise my suspicious mind would start to think she was only after your wealth following your awesome HOCS performance and over exposure to a record breaking Centamin!
Have a wonderful day tomorrow and my very best wishes to the Mr and the, very new, Mrs Sotolo.
Yours, humming John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 'Grow Old with Me',
Prof
Yes seriously 1045am, I have been nagged for years but Covid bought it on as I thought of all the problems my partner would suffer if I were to snuff it, then there are heart attacks and other sudden deaths.. And of course the great advantage to now , as Steve points out, is can’t ask all warring extended family. Funny thing is it turns out to feel rather romantic. Maybe in common with many others it is not our only Covid change, the wonders of gold so far means we are trying to build our Mies van Der Rohe like super modern house that has had planning for 8 years In a Suffolk wood waiting for gold to rise. My big economic question is are we in 1920 when after the Spanish flu there was a burgeoning of creativity, as us seeking our changes, or 1930.....
Many congrats on the "marrying"... a good time to do it, COVID providing the perfect opportunity to keep the guest list down!!!
Ref the marrying bit not ref the not the 'not going to sell in the next 4' and buy back tomorrow'.
Seriously?
... and marrying tomorrow Which have managed to avoid for near a lifetime so hardly want to be buying at 8.05, while being nagged at, although of course this has no bearing on the price
Exactly so I am not going to sell In next 4’ and buy back Tomorrow
Yes, of course Mr Tibbles, taken as a given :-). At the moment, being in overnight is a big risk, the swings recently have been extremely high, rather relieved after the ~1865 ~05:30 gold price, it rose a lot up to and beyond the opening day, else I feared a very bad day- especially at 05:30 this morning!
Be aware Steve that tomorrows open price less the divi may not be the same as today's London close as there may be a SP gap up or down depending on the through the night markets and/or their effect on the POG.
This has caught out many CFD and other traders and that set stop losses which are visible to the MM.
Except if it doesn’t; even if other things are equal, it usually falls a little less than the dividend possibly because with a slightly smaller fall there are more buyers than sellers as don’t understand ex doc. I have been caught out too many times trying to sell the eve before and buy back in the morn so pay cgt on the price fall at 20% instead of near double 37% on the dividend, but the share hasn’t fallen as much as the divi.
Yes Steve you’re right.
And don't forget the SP opens tomorrow at the close price today minus the dividend amount
Why is this so hard for people to understand? Same with all shares, you must own before goes ex-divi, clearly it goes ex-divi on 14th Aug so you must own the share close of play today. You can sell immediately on 14th Aug as it's the 14th Aug and no longer the 13th Aug!
As soon as I posted I got a reply email:
“ Hi Xxxxx
You need to buy them today to be entitled to dividend
The rules are whoever owns the shares at 8.00 am on day they go XD is entitled to dividend
Kind Regards
Xxxxxx
JackOsb I’ve asked the powers that be so I’m not wrong...
I’ll reply ASAP
I thought so long as we own shares till close tomorrow we can sell on the 14th and get the div?
GoldAnOil if my understanding is correct to qualify for the dividend the shares must be bought before close of business today and held until August 19th.
Unless it suits to get in it’s not really worth going out of your way to get in as the pps will likely contract the divi amount within a few days.
What is more important is to buy in the dips in the coming weeks as the Egyptian government are to close the opportunity for new mining licenses on September 15th and the general consequences of this board is that scoring a licence wil be a game changer for Centamin and hence the share price.
All good stuff... so good to have a cash rich Covid19 resident company with plenty of eminent upside.
As one bb member described Cey:
“Remember, this is a debt-free, cash-rich, unhedged, gold miner. Operating a world class asset with a long life of mine and huge exploration upside, whose operations have been unaffected by Covid-19, and which pays a really good dividend.”
Hard to beat!
You're welcome.
Still can't decide wether to buy in again or wait for the ex-div drop.
With AU still in decline, the drop may be greater than the divi.
Thank you GoldAnOil, I’m glad I mentioned the dividend date as I would have missed today’s opportunity.
