Some intriguing comments on here this evening. I wasn’t quite sure if ‘you would own nothing and be happy’ was a good or a bad thing or why ‘we just like to shoot ourselves in the foot’.
I have to laugh every time someone reels corbyn out as part of a serious debate (is he still alive?). Referencing him is like me telling my 4 year if old you don’t do what I say a monster will climb through your window at night and eat you alive. Corbyn is a non-entity but he still serves a purpose as the monster waiting outside every window that makes the other idiot seem like a good deal.
Oh for a credible and decent opposition that means whoever is in power has to be doing a first class honest job in order to stay there.
Being led by weaklings , what does that say about the led?
We just like to shoot ourselves in the foot.
We have lost our backbone and are lead by weaklings with no vision.
With Corbyn and Labour (sic) you wouldn't be allowed to own anything, so you wouldn't have anyinvestments to cash out. You would own nothing and be happy.
The question is, why are so many ftse companies so undervalued. Why does it take a French/lsralli or Indian billionaire to recognise value. Why can’t we trade at the correct price. Marks and spencer, Tesco., Morrison. The list goes on.
If you lot wanted BT to be a "national asset" maybe you should have voted for Labour & Corbyn to renationalise Openreach. Which was a sensible policy and pro-UK.
As it stands ill take the foreign owner and cash out my investment. There is no national pride under a Tory government, only opportunists and and corruption.
"foreign entity" they sold off the drinking water to one so if the french can posion our water [which iam currently surprized they havent } why not allow one to control our ear waves
They didn't "abandon" it, Gordon Brown sold it, just like he sold the gold and many other assets to make a quick buck. The fact is that the communications network IS a critical national asset and should never be allowed to taken over by a foreign company. No other leading nation allows their telecommunications network to be owned by a foreign entity because they understand the value of it, unlike the short-termist idiots that have governed this country since the 90s.
“ They have their own mobile system.”
Yes BUT it is transported over BT products and its network. The issue is the fact that BTs network transports critical connectivity, it has network in places that “ dont” exist, not being Uk owned could have security issues should a “ friendly “ nation suddenly not be one if it owned BT and therefor had access to its sensitive locations and systems…
My view is only a small proportion of what BT provides and operates could be considered critical infrastructure.
Firewalls and access to national security operations - yes. Rest of BT - no.
Some years ago the emergency service networks (blue light) were spun out of BT as Airwave became part of O2, then sold by O2 to Maqaurie group an Australian congomeralate (not sure who runs it now).
If the 'general' BT fibre network and local access is deemed critical what does that mean for all other UK operators?
UK Government abandoned their Golden share in 1997.

They have their own mobile system.
But it is critical infrastructure, supporting the Emergency Services Network and the like..
I totally agree.
The Government sold it so it's not a national asset anymore.
It's not a national asset if the government doesn't own it.
You can't sell your house and keep living in it.
They had their shot at having a national telecoms provider and bottled it in favour of a quick buck. Tough ***ties.
Virgin and O2 both use the BT network and it is this that is a national asset.
No. Yes.
What about Virgin Media/o2?
Is it a national asset?
It is foreign owned?
you're almost a 'national asset' too Rod but without the 'et'
Win Win situation for long suffering investors . The Bod wakes up n delivers or let someone else do the job . It is time for action . Drahi comes in on the BOD or takes over to get the job done .
agreed rod thats why it should never have been sold off in the first place ,is it private or not ?
all i can say is sod off boris bt is a private company any one can buy shares in it,you cant have it both ways ,either buy it back and renationalize it of keep yer gob shut, stealth dictator ship springs to mind
