Thanks all for your replies. Some really good food for thought! In no way am I averse to risk and my overall thoughts are that I am strapped in for the ride :-) Time will tell if I am eating beans or caviar in the Medium term!
Great post Care4shares.
Everyone is on here for the obvious - make a profit. But that profit can vary from 0.1% to 10000% and i can guarantee you that those who are able to buy at the bottom and sell at the top cannot do it on a constant basis. So in theory, everyone is a loser because even if you make 500% on your initial investment, you see someone who sold 10p higher and think "ahhhhh that could've been me if i held on longer", this is typical in every business and it drives us to do more analysis and create more in-depth decisions the next time around. Its the best learning curve that nobody can teach you except yourself and your judgement.
£1.68 isn't bad, its only bad now because the price is lower but there are people who bought in at £2.00 that its even worse for, but remember that your loss is only registered when you sell, until that point the SP will fluctuate and it can go higher or lower. If you have belief that it will go higher (from your own research) then hold and sell when you are comfortable to take whatever profit you think is adequate, If you think it will go lower (again, based on your own research) then sometimes you have to cut your losses and maybe you lose a few hundred £ now, but you might've learned a lesson that will earn you a few thousand £ on your next pick.
Overall :
1. you aren't foolish (even the most seasoned traders make foolish mistakes)
2. Newbies can make or lose money like anybody else in any profession (i've seen tons of beginners luck in every aspect of life)
And that the majority of us on here have faith in AVCT that it will go higher due to incoming RNS's which are still due and if positive the only way is up. But then again, none of us know what is going to be in those RNS's, hence research research and research are your most valuable weapons in this arena : )
GL mate
Foolish - great tag!
There are many very good and wise ppl here ( I'm not one). Be very aware of the advice you receive, ppl wanting to sell may tell you it's great and you should buy all you can and someone wanting to buy more may say sell as quickly as you can. In my own opinion you've been very lucky and picked a good un. You and I have missed the boat regarding the sale ( I have nothing left to invest:-( ) and it was over subscribed. Best thing to do is just sit on your hands and enjoy the ride. IMHO.
Mate - many have been there! My opinion would be to hold put. Don’t sell at a loss, and wait for this week to be in the rear view. You’ve missed the placing (closed same day) so don’t materialise the loss, as the next week or so will provide some news which will give you the chance to make a better decision then on whether to stay in the share or leave (or slice out that original £2k). Good luck.
The raising is done and dusted you won’t get any at 1.20
I would just hold on to what you have and look at the price in a month. Not advice btw just what I would do
No newbie, the placing is closed. You cannot buy via the placing now
Hi All. As my name suggests I am a newbie to singular holding investment and perhaps a foolish one at that. Did very little research on Avacta, had £2ooo I wanted to do something with and bought at £1.68 :-( I'm not trying to make a quick buck but need some advice. Having read through the threads and having done more research (after investing) I am now needing some more experienced direction! Obviously I have made an immediate loss and todays rally has brought me back to a 5% loss. With this raising that they have made available....is it an option for me to take advantage of? My thoughts being....accept the immediate loss, sell Half and put cash towards the £1.20 raising price....does that mean It works like an employee share option scheme where I must hold the shares for a period of time before I can sell and I will (if SP was to remain static for this example) I would make an immediate gain on the holding....Please help as I have jumped in with both feet!
