My wife wanted a food mixer for Christmas. So I went on a research drive on what to buy as I wanted to treat her with the best quality I could find. There were so many to choose from; from various price ranges, but one thing sprung to mind immediately before I went into my quest and that was, I don’t want cheap Chinese stuff. Why? Because I wanted first top quality ( something that would last ). Second, I wanted to give jobs either to British or European workers. I wanted a 100% European product for a change. I found it, and it cost me, but the moment I held the product in my hands I said...wow, it is heavy and robbist and doesn’t look cheap at all and the free warranty you guess? 25 years!! French made Magimix!!
Why am I telling you this? Well, if you want a “cheap and tearful” LFT you get what you paid for. But if you want quality the world will soon have a British-designed and made LFT. IF you want to see what the Chinese have sold the desperate world see below.
Respirators:
NPPTL has recently received new information from stakeholders across the United States regarding products from China claiming to meet GB2626 and EN149. Assessment results confirm that some of these products have poor filter efficiency and are of poor quality.

Chinese Vaccine:
The phrase "Made in China" has a generally negative reputation due to the poor quality of products made in the country.Towing a similar line, Chinese vaccines against COVID-19 are proving ineffective. No one thought that the inferior quality of Chinese vaccines would end people's. lives.https://www.newsweek.com/chinese-made-covid-19-vaccines-cause-international-concern-opinion-1575531
Chinese Pharma counterfeits:
In the last 20 years, Beijing has turned healthcare into a national priority. But the country's history of counterfeit drugs and weak regulation casts a lingering shadow. The topic is particularly pertinent now, with Beijing's COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy in full swing.

Masks and test kits:
The European Commission said on Thursday it has suspended the delivery of 10 million Chinese masks to member states and the United Kingdom after two countries complained about the poor quality of the batches they received.

Wonder how often we will hear the opposite. Negative LFT checked against PCR which comes back positive but actually was post infectious and poor sod has had to isolate when they aren’t infectious.
That’s the one Deeks doesn’t want anyone to understand or promote!
xviolet,
I guess those Chinese Innova test that gave 3 times positive results but the PCR said "NO", should have fortune cookies attached to them as back up. I suggest, if you can, tell your friend to send feedback to the government (copying the Daily Mail possibly) so that they don't spend out tax payers money on some Chinese crap which doesn't even provide a fortune cookie bonus attached (fle of chaage).
Wilson
Such a shame xviolet posted this after MatttDamooon got his ban :( we’d have needed at least 4 buckets of popcorn!
Just a second.....I smell something....must be BS.
Your imaginary friend did NOT get told to stop taking LFTs by PHE.
This is like one of those murder shows where the suspect is so guilty, every time they get busted with some hard evidence the story changed to dig a deeper hole!
Did Boris also call round to your friends for a quick chat on some personal input into the travel traffic light system advice? Sounds like being such a unique case she’s getting a lot of govt attention JOKER
Most definitely Monkshood, no way to factor in the weighting of probability (at least from myself) of potential cross reactivity etc. I doubt even Innova know fully, nor want to know! Also just don't know the time between testing, the manner in which the person carried out the test etc.
Multitude of reasons for it to occur, there is also a huge variation in conditioning of Innova packages according to reports, so all tests may be from same dodgy batch.
Hopefully soon this need not be a topic, Innova tests will have their purpose and that will be to fill any gaps in the extremity of size of market required for LFT's.
Also, as an aside has any one got the link for Government desired timeline LFT-wise. I believe it had 19th April as a key date in regards to rollout, has been put here a few times but my investigate skills are lacklustre at best to find it again. Cheers in advance
OK. seeing as everyone here is very precise on data. And I am very casual - if not totally slack - I decided to go back to my whatsup to see exactly what my friend said.
She said she has had a 'few' false positive LFTs. Each time it was balanced with a negative PCR. However Public Health England told her she must have had COVID at some point. And they have asked her to stop taking LFT tests. So it was PHE not the headmaster who told her stop. The headmaster is just 'fed up' with losing her from work to false positives. So those are the facts as I have them. I apologize for any errors in my recall and apologize if anyone had to spend hours doing calculations as a result.
The maths is sound, but- you are assuming the false positives are random events. It could, however be that it is a cross reaction with another viral /bacterial protein. If so you could take multiple tests and keep getting false positives.

Recent Analysis on Innova. Using relevant (real-life situations) data, Innova go at 50.1% LFD sensitivity and 99.72% specificity - this is on the pre-requisite of PCR sensitivity being 100%. Pooled estimate of 94% on the sensitivity may perhaps be closer but using the 99.72% (comparison to PCR) is the known benchmark.
Going at 99.72% the chances of having 3 false positives, from let's say 20 tests. The chances of this person's story being true is 0.00239%. 3 from 50 would be 0.03771%.
If anyone wants to know how I worked that out then I'll try explain but after a coffee..
Now let's get everyone the AVCT gold-standard LFT's! :-)
My wife works part time in a care home and all staff are routinely tested with both PCR and LFD tests.
One PCR test on one of her colleagues came back positive but the LFD test was negative. He paid for his own second PCR test and this was also negative. He still had to self isolate and wasn't paid for the time he had to take off work. Needless to say he didn't develop any symptoms and felt well throughout.
All of my wife's PCR tests have come back negative except for two where the results were received very late and came back "unable to determine" or some such other nonsense.
I take the view that what is required is a highly accurate LFD test that gives a result within 10-20 minutes. Anyone know where one can be sourced?
I posted on this yesterday- the actual number is 8010 false positives to date - so that is 8007 others, after knocking of the 3 you friend had......
like I'm really going to give you her name and the name of the school. you may take it as BS because I can only give you the data as a story with no factual links or leads. but that's all I can do as I don't want to provide any 'real life' links or data that could be used elsewhere. so yeah sorry it sounds like such a tall story. but i thought it was worth sharing here.
Isn't deeks basically moaning as there aren't enough positives so it must be crap?
The data we have regarding the false positive rate even on Innova tests makes me think this is the stuff of urban legend. Sorry, I’m calling BS here.
My friend is a teacher. Over the last few weeks she has taken many LFT tests (presumably we know the manufacturer) and had three positive results. Each time she had to self-isolate and take a PCR test - each time the result was Negative. Now the headmaster has told her not to take anymore LFT tests. He's had enough of losing staff to false positives. Yes this is anecdotal but if this is being played out across the UK I hope that helps us in the medium to long-term.
