Also worth highlighting..
“ This information does not represent an overview of the potential side effects associated with the vaccines. A list of the recognised adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines is provided in the information for healthcare professionals and the recipient information. These can also be found on the Coronavirus Yellow Card reporting site. Conclusions on the safety and risks of the vaccines cannot be made on the data shown in the Print alone.”
Until 2020, no expert ever saw lockdowns as the appropriate solution - they just didnt happen because they don't stop the endemic spread of a highly infectious virus.
With a few isolated exceptions, covid has spread across the world during multiple lockdowns, so lockdowns clearly haven't worked. They just alter the timeframe a bit (remember "flatten the curve").
I think in time these so-called experts will look back on 2020/21 on what NOT to do.
Mr A, agreed!
Exactly that - the govt were pushing the vaccine silver bullet rhetoric whilst they have the safety net of a lockdown to help "back up" the numbers. That's the hedge to keeping momentum on one of their very few successes in this pandemic and want to keep spinning it as long as possible. Anyone with half a brain knows the lockdown is the main driver behind cases dropping. The people out spreading were predominantly the ones who are unvaccinated (under 40 with no underlying medical conditions).
Now they have committed to a reopening date and their hedge of lockdown is gone, the govt are sh*tting their pants that it will all become very clear to the average Joe that vaccines are NOT the silver bullet and the govt have been deficient in other areas. Hence NOW and only very recently the huge change in messaging around testing.
Even if the virus got down to 0 cases in the U.K., there are clearly provisions that need to be in place for years and years to come. Best in class test supplies are a key part of that.
Bojo is prepared to spend over £100bn to reduce train times from London to Birmingham by 15minutes with HS2. He will throw the required money at testing supply so that our pants cannot be pulled down when there is another wave.
Not to mention European/American/ ROW needs.
Point taken re lockdown prob being key though
I’d need to go back to iplayer to check who was being interviewed but R4 Today had item about 8.40 this morning talking about big drop in hospitalisation for Covid post vaccination with effect kicking in after a week and showing v g protection after three weeks with only one jab. Reduces impact, can still spread though.
Let's be honest. This isn't 'according to Boris', it's reported by him. The WHO keep reiterating the fact that it's lockdown that's reduced cases, trying to ensure restrictions are relaxed in tandem with increasing immunity. Trying to avoid another Chile I guess. Johnson has a big dressing up box, he's not a multi-skilled savant!
“ Only 32 people hospitalised with Covid after having vaccination
Scientists ‘delighted’ with data showing effectiveness of Britain’s jabs programme but Boris Johnson says he will not deviate from roadmap”
NdN,
Very few people were exposed to the virus, due to lock down. If we remove social distancing and let the virus rip, there is potential for 1000s more to be hospitalised and new variants to form.
Ndn: not according to Boris who has attributed the decrease in numbers to the lockdown.
The vaccine has not yet had time to be shown to be having an effect.
/paraphrased.
And if you still ain't convinced..............
