I think some people are missing the fact that while this type of motorsport isn’t hugely popular in the UK; the format they have adopt is a series of mini Dakar Rally’s.
The Dakar Rally attracts over 1 billion viewers and is a huge sport in many countries, Middle East, Far East, America and parts of Europe.
I’m looking forward to seeing them pull in to the paddock and stick their cars on to charge next to a big AFC Energy sign!
Let’s face it, one of the biggest potential markets for this company is not the UK, but the Middle East!!
It's being steamed live on BBC . Here's an article from March.

Formula E could easily use an AFC system with green Ammonia, as I suggested to them very early this year.
Another chat with AB ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csui221IFiM
Extreme E is the sister company to Formula E so it's possible that once AFC has proven itself Formula E will be interested in teaming up with AFC. Those cars are likely use more power as the race is longer (80-100km vs 32km) so we'll probably have to wait until the HydroX-Cell(S) system is up an running.
Yeah, I get that, Maybe thy will fit a sound generator to the cars to make them sound better. A bit like they have in the football without the crowd.
I really hope racing with conventional engines doesn't die out, I watched a few seconds of formula E and it was boring as hell. If you ever go to watch an F1 race the most incredible memories for me are the roar of the engines, and the smell of the fuel.
its actually a very interesting concept.
Motor sports is trying to get greener but with the introduction of EV and the improvements I can only assume that in years to come motor sports using combustion engines may die out with the petrol and diesel cars.
What would be the point. It would be a dinosaur in comparison to the EV alternative.
Well positioned if you ask me.
As I said AB is a genius and I am starting to like his style.
That's viewers not ££££'s....
Finally Daz. A post thats not so much what we haven't got but looking at what we have.
You are welcome from the dark side. Its much brighter over here.
Bond said 220 million per race! That's huge...
Still lots of questions but twitter has just popped up with the AFC tweet, marketing finally seems joined up. For sure if we had seen another hydrogen company mentioned teamed up with Extreme E then everyone would have been saying another missed opportunity. Looking forward to more announcements to follow.
'Extreme E is the poor relation to formula E.
Extreme E will start in 2021, so currently no viewers no advertising opportunity until it starts.
I imagine it will be on some obscure sports channel not mainstream TV.
But its a start, Now a contract with Formula E, that would be something to crow about.'
From the Extreme E website :
Alongside ORF, Extreme E has also confirmed broadcast partnerships with the BBC (UK), FOX Sports (United States, Canada and the Caribbean), FOX Sports Asia (Southeast Asia), FOX Sports Australia, Mediaset (Italy), Sony India (Indian subcontinent), TVNZ (New Zealand), RTM (Malaysia), Dubai Sports (Middle East), RDS (Canada), China Sports Zhibo.tv (China), RTL 7 (The Netherlands) and BTRC (Belarus).
There's the channels signed so far, obscure enough for you yellowf1?
The fact that AFC are actually being paid is impressive. What would advertising cost for a 221m audience.
AFC are in collaboration, a partner, their presence will be prominent.
AB is turning into a commercial genius. He is really going up in my estimations this last few months.
I like him.
Knowing Mr Bond over the years, i would hazard a guess of £100k. I just hope and pray that there are no hiccups with the tech and it shows what is available now to help save the planet. FINGERS CROSSED.
yellowf1 - just to clarify, AB never said the initial payment was "low six figures" he said "six figures, so a sizeable amount" we don't know weather its low or high six figures. I'd settle for middle six figures!
Yellow. The advertising they will receive alone is worth millions.
This is a commercial contract and a one-off. It is more about the promotion and PR and to demonstrate a closed loop system from production of green hydrogen through an electrolyser, which up until this morning has never been discussed by AFC and now we have one.
It goes to show how advanced AFC are in system development, not just in power development but now production of green hydrogen for energy production.
They will now showcase this on a global scale. Cant really put a price on that.
Cannot get my head around the negativity here. Why do people always try and talk it down??
Madness
Never any vision with you is there yellowf1? This has Top Gear coverage written all over it!
Formula E’s filings say a combined 476,000 people attended the 12 races in 2017-18, more than double the previous year. This season’s final numbers have not been published yet.
Comprehensive viewing figures are also difficult to pin down, but Formula E says that prior to its final races in Bern and New York, an average of 32.6m people globally had tuned in to watch the previous 10 rounds, suggesting a clear and growing fan base.
That is up from 27.1m in 2017-18 and 18.6m viewers the season before.
The above shows just how popular races involving electric power vehicles are becoming.
For years we have been quite rightly critical of AFC's lack of publicity, now we have the opportunity for the company's logo and technology to be on millions of TV screens, world wide.
At present there is only the first episode available on All4 as the three programmes may have already been shown. It has also been on Eurosport I think and is scheduled for Nation Geographic this autumn. Not heard of it until today but has possibilities and the promotion it could give towards AFC is substantial.
ooops ....bit late ....sorry.
This may help clear up what is going on ... https://www.extreme-e.com/en/news/109_Extreme-E-set-to-make-TV-debut-on-Channel-4.html ...25th July .
