The sun is bright now our home has turned a bit on it's orbit, the sky is a very light blue and it's reflection off the bottom of the few wispy clouds that are there has a wonderful luminosity to it. The birds are singing and the multitude of green shades has returned in full to the paysage. I love this planet, shame it's polluted by humans.
av a goodun
STV Good morning the weather is great here in London too. Unfortunately the human race seems to be a race inexorably towards disaster and self destruction the very rich and their power brokers will never accept having to give up anything that they want, so as to allow the planet to survive, when greed is king we are all in trouble and we are.
I was on the plot till late on my own stealthy .. love the knowing that hides in silence. Man is always pushing and shoving, trying to get more and better himself, trying to be every creature but the one he is. Playing at creation and destroying it by a inherent inner spark to be all. the planets dying of greed and want. Of lack of honesty, of lack of unselfishness, of lack of purity and of lack of love.
Lol, it’s unstoppable and unsolvable.
Enjoy this day
Love an stuff
Bob, Git, There's a bit of me that says "ferk it whatever I do wont change anything" but I just can't accept that. I'm probably more guilty than most when it comes to burning hydrocarbons, it always provided a lot of my fun. I've planted quite a few trees since i retired, but they will never soak up a fraction of the carbon I've put in the atmosphere. Then blighted by our caveman level human nature as I am I think why should I go without while others just take what they want. I'm not happy with that either and I have no idea how to answer my own contradictions, wish I was cleverer.
STV...don't buy plastic straws. Apparently that is going to save the planet and the oceans. What a joke? Humans are chimps. Chimps, when in high densities areas, become increasingly aggressive. Over population. Nothing will change at all until population is reduced significantly Everything else is tinkering and ****ing in the wind uphill. Good morning all, even the lefties.
Oldy, I was listening to a bbc science podcast about a chap who went down to challenger deep, the deepest part of the world's oceans. On the seabed illuminated by the sub's lights was a printed plastic bag - how very sad. There was also a report about the carbon foot print of the energy consumption of the internet, which is greater that the worlds commercial airlines. I think we have passed the point of rescue and I just hope my grandkids don't suffer too much for our ignorance.
STV Your conundrum is my conundrum. The truth is that when you have the largest super power in the world led by someone who blatantly only cares about himself, who denigrates individuals and terms as fake news anything that he personally doesn’t like and who was elected and is supported by those who clearly don’t understand, that rather than their saviour he is their nemesis, and when the world stands by and allows so many disgusting things to happen to other members of the human race and to the natural world, I am sorry to say that I think it is too late. What bothers me is what the future holds for the generations to come. If I make a few bob on here then it will go to my kids so that they can have some good times before things go totally to pot.
Oldie Good morning to you too, how are things way over there on the right ?
GIT it ain't too bad. However, I don't really sit on the right. I am a libertarian. NOT a liberal. The two are very different. A libertarian, by definition, needs some conservatism.
Whenever I get the opportunity I set light to me farts. This prevents methane getting to the upper atmosphere where it is 20 times worse as a greenhouse gas than CO2, every little helps.
Oldie, Orwell was, when he went to the Spanish CIvil War, fighting for left wing libetarianism in the form of the anarchists. It was the best of the political ideas available to fight for at the time. Although they were on the socialist side, the Russian Marxist boys shot them all for treason or such, just before they redistributed the Spanish gold back to Russia.
Oldie, if I had the energy, I'd be a Libertine ;-))
OMR...I like their music ;-)
Orwell....a visionary in many ways.
Strange how he died (not the heart stopping bit as that is responsible for all deaths)....
Indeed Orwell was. Much of his stuff is very relevant today, from the obvious Animal Farm and 1984 to the social commentary in ‘the road to Wigan pier’ , Down and out in Paris and London’ ‘ Homage to Catalonia’ . In fact sadly relevant , the human condition does not change it seems.
Oldie So you are :- Libertarianism (from Latin: libertas, meaning "freedom") is a collection of political philosophies and movements that uphold liberty as a core principle.[1] Libertarians seek to maximize political freedom and autonomy, emphasizing freedom of choice, voluntary association, and individual judgment.[2][3][4] Libertarians share a skepticism of authority and state power, but they diverge on the scope of their opposition to existing political and economic systems. Various schools of libertarian thought offer a range of views regarding the legitimate functions of state and private power, often calling for the restriction or dissolution of coercive social institutions.[5] Traditionally, libertarianism was a term for a form of left-wing politics. Such left-libertarian ideologies seek to abolish capitalism and private ownership of the means of production, or else to restrict their purview or effects, in favor of common or cooperative ownership and management, viewing private property as a barrier to freedom and liberty.[6][7][8][9] Classical libertarian ideologies include—but are not limited to—anarcho-communism, anarcho-syndicalism, mutualism and egoism, alongside many other anti-paternalist, New Left schools of thought centered around economic egalitarianism. Modern right-libertarian ideologies, such as minarchism and anarcho-capitalism, co-opted the term in the mid-20th century to instead advocate laissez-faire capitalism and strong private property rights such as in land, infrastructure and natural resources.[10][11][12]
Oldie So, if you are truly old skool then you are in fact a lefty as that was the traditional old skool meaning of libertarianism mate, welcome aboard ! Who would have guessed !
Cutting and pasting of Wiki is lazy research. That wiki entry has a number of inaccuracies straight off. The first paragraph you cut and pasted contradicts, in many ways, the second paragraph. I will settle on the first paragraph as a starter. Left, right, conservative, facist, socialist, theocracy (unicorns) and so all sit at different points on the same triangle. The zeitgeist moves.
You must also put this in context. My experience of many liberals and liberal lefties especially (crunchy conservatives have some liberal views) of today is that they love sound bites, they are keyboard warriors. They like soft targets, like Trump. His shocking wall and his shocking immigration stance and his shocking fake news blah blah blah. Easy to spit at as he is across and ocean but it allows them to feel all 'hard' and empowered. The same liberals who want equality and equal ops for all (shouting down Trump on such matters)appear to be lacking when real challenge is required, and in their doorstep. Oh, where is my safe space as 'x' said a nasty thing.
Even pigs with high moral standards become humans in the end. Greed, indolence and ambition lies there waiting for all of us. If we are granted enough wit at birth and circumstances allow for growth then hard work and application can, in the end, lead to some form of security if health permits. Having worked hard you get enough shekels to try using the money to make some money, again there will be circumstances you cannot predict, so you are taking risk on board. Anyway that’s what I have done, ie, worked, saved, invested. This is capitalism, if successful in my practice of it I will have created work for others who can then choose their path and wealth fo myself. Socialism is failing, however, it is through prudent management of capitalism ( the least worst of the systems) that we can fulfill some good socialists works such as the NHS. Ultimately capitalism has to be used to allow for success, if society fails we all suffer. Socialism on its own does not work, there is far too much indolence and expectation of provision by those that are not incapable of work, or indeed birth control. As a lad from a Council estate in the fifties and sixties with Ill parents I understand the need for support, but also the necessity of application of mind and muscle. I know successive generations that do not work, have no intention of doing so, they are also successful at breeding. So I am invested in Wres because that is my socio- political view. I am also a greedy bar steward.
Oldie I’m not lazy - I just couldn’t be bothered ! Try this link then, it says that libertarians are liberals and amongst other things broad minded and believing in free speech, and yet you constantly berate what you call lefties, which I find a little strange :-) https://www.thefreedictionary.com/libertarian
Safety, very little splits humans and pigs. Our species (genetically) ha e much in common hence science exploiting that for medical advancements (cue Vegan rage).
A future ? Perhaps a better one?

Ned to convince Asia first, Europe has already seen a decline in family numbers.
Oh GIT you are a card. The left are anti free speech. Very anti. I am all for free speech, and have written so many times. I am a great believer in the following, and have quoted this many times,
'I don’t agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
Wrongly attributed to Voltaire I hasten to add. Right now the left are right behind one of the biggest threats to free speech in living memory in this country.
Free speech suppression, no one does it better than communists....that'll be the socialist peeps then. Yes, I know someone will say what about the Nazi's. The same person will ignore the FACT that the Nazi's were the National Socialist Party (please insert German Workers if you wish). The Nazi were socialist. Facists and communists sing from the same song sheet. I find it somewhat amusing when the left shout facist at the so called 'right'. Always strikes me as odd that one. The fact they shout it out to shut down a point of view or debate says a bit more too. Odd.
