Allotment Letter

Definition of 'Allotment Letter'

A document issued to shareholder as proof of ownership of an underlying stock when a company has a rights issue or open offer entitling the shareholder to take up new shares. Some new issues commence trading in allotment letter form usually for the first six–week period before the stock becomes fully registered.
