Abbey PLC03 October 2005 Abbey Plc (the 'Company') Share Buy Back Abbey Plc announces that on 3 October 2005, it purchased 130,000 ordinary sharesof €0.32 each in the issued share capital of the Company ('Ordinary Shares') at€8.80 per share to be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase the Company holds 3,067,739 Ordinary Shares astreasury shares. The total number of Ordinary Shares in issue (excluding sharesheld as treasury shares) is 31,010,043. This purchase was made pursuant to the authority granted by shareholders at anExtraordinary General Meeting of the Company held on 21 June 2005.
