RESIGNATION OF A NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

(this announcement replaces the notice issued at 12:12, number 4715J, with a correction being made to Ms Cairns' new job title)

Newcastle Building Society (NBS) announces the resignation of Ann Cairns as a Non-Executive member of its Board with effect from today, 30th June 2011.

Ann will take up the full-time position at Mastercard as President, International Markets, which means time pressures will not allow her to maintain her post with the Society.

NBS has a succession plan in place and will announce a replacement as soon as practicable.
