BOARD APPOINTMENT AT AIB

Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. ("AIB") [NYSE: AIB] announces the appointment of Dr. Michael Somers as a Non-Executive Director.

Dr. Somers is the former Chief Executive of the National Treasury Management Agency. His appointment is by the National Pensions Reserve Fund Commission ("the Commission") in the exercise of its rights under Article 99 of the Articles of Association of Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. and on foot of a direction to the Commission from the Minister for Finance pursuant to section 19B of the National Pensions Reserve Fund Act 2000 (as amended).
