Trading update
For the 8 week period from 9 November 2014 to 3 January 2015
"Strong result over the Christmas period"
Ted Baker, the British lifestyle brand, is pleased to announce a 22.8% increase in retail sales for the 8 week period from 9 November 2014 to 3 January 2015 (the "period"), compared to the same period last year. Average retail square footage rose by 9.2% over the period to 331,208 sq.ft. (2014: 303,174 sq.ft.)
Gross margins were in line with expectations and, as in previous years, there was no significant promotional activity before Christmas. Sales since Christmas have been particularly strong and we expect to end the year with a clean stock position.
Performance across our established territories has remained strong and we continue to invest in our newer markets for the long-term opportunities of the Ted Baker brand.
Our e-commerce business performed very well, with sales increasing 65.7%, reflecting continuing growth in the UK and a strong performance in the US following the successful migration of our US website to the new platform in July 2014.
During the period we opened a store in Heathrow Terminal 4, relocated our Birmingham store to the Bullring and continued our international expansion with two new licensed stores with our partners in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.
We intend to announce our Annual Results for the 53 weeks ending 31 January 2015 on 19 March 2015.
