SciSys wins new contract with the European Space Agency to supply operational simulator into Gaia programme.

SciSys plc (AIM: SSY), the specialist supplier of bespoke software systems, IT based solutions and support services is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a new contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to supply the Operational Simulator for the Gaia programme. Including all options, it is anticipated that the value of the contract will be in excess of €1m.

In 2012 the European Space Agency (ESA) will launch Gaia, a sophisticated spacecraft which will perform a survey of the sky to create a three-dimensional map that positions the approximately one billion stars, galaxies, nebulae and other objects with unprecedented accuracy.

SciSys has been selected by ESA to develop the Gaia Operations Simulator, which will be used to test the ground software systems, train the spacecraft operations team and validate the procedures used to operate the spacecraft. For the first time, the operations simulator will also be used by ESA's orbit and attitude control specialists to test their ground software and procedures. This requires the simulator to be run much faster than real-time and SciSys QERx processor emulator technology has been selected by ESA to make this possible. The development project will run until 2012 when the simulator will be used for Gaia pre-launch preparations.Chairman Mike Love commented "SciSys has developed operations simulators for many ESA missions including Aeolus, Envisat, GIOVE-B, GOCE and, most recently, the Galileo constellation simulator, which simulates 30 or more all the spacecraft in the constellation. The Gaia simulator continues SciSys strength in this field.

This contract is yet another good example of the increasing momentum at SciSys during 2009, and reinforces the Board's current confidence in the Company's expected 2009 financial performance."
