Sanctuary Group PLC22 January 2007 The Sanctuary Group PLC 22 January 2007 THE SANCTUARY GROUP PLC (the 'Company') NOTIFIABLE INTEREST The Company was informed on 19 January 2007 by The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc that, as at close of business on 17 January 2007, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc ("GS Inc.") is interested, by attribution only, in 32,882,842 ordinary shares of 2 pence each in the Company ('Ordinary Shares'), representing approximately 14.8 per cent. of the issued share capital of the Company. Of these 32,882,842 Ordinary Shares: • The interest in 32,525,286 Ordinary Shares arose from a beneficial interest held by Goldman Sachs International, a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of GS Inc. These shares are, or will be, registered at CREST in account CREPTEMP. This represents 14.64 per cent. of the total issued share capital of the Company. • The interest in 357,556 Ordinary Shares arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs & Co. ("GS&Co."), a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc., acting as custodian for its customers. These shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited.
