PeerTV launches Android software for next generation TV services

PeerTV (AIM:PTV), a provider of technology and solutions for the TV over the internet (OTT) market, is pleased to announce that it has launched PeerDroid, its advanced Android-based set-top box (STB) middleware.

The Android software, originally designed to be utilised on Smartphones and Tablets, is ideal for launching next generation TV services, as broadcast and broadband look towards converged services.

PeerDroid leverages Android's powerful software platform while providing customers, the Pay TV operators, with a well-managed environment and ensures service and content rights are not compromised.

Pay TV operators launching PeerDroid STBs offer their subscribers access to PayTV traditional services such as Live TV (IP and broadcast) as well as video-on-demand and electronic program guide (schedule) all from a TV optimized user interface with a high-end, highly customizable, 3D hardware-accelerated graphics and animation. Subscribers can also access Android's rich third party applications and games such as Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds, etc through a dedicated market.

PeerDroid users can watch a live-streamed movie on their TV, whilst browsing the internet for content and updating their favorite social network status. This is all done seamlessly with remote control optimised interface.

PeerDroid runs on Cortex A9 platforms, offering unrivaled video quality and performance, and provides a secure platform for premium and internet content.
