Statement regarding press comment

Polyus Gold International Limited (the "Company") notes recent speculation in the press concerning a possible merger transaction between the Company and Polymetal International Plc ("Polymetal"). The Company is not engaged in any discussions with Polymetal with respect to any combination involving the two companies.
