Max Petroleum PLC03 August 2006 MAX PETROLEUM PLC (AIM:MXP) Appointment of Chief Financial Officer Max Petroleum PLC ("Max Petroleum" or the "Company") is pleased to announce thatMichael B. Young has been appointed as the Company's Chief Financial Officer,effective 1 September 2006. Mr Young will join from Whittier Energy Corporation (WHIT US:NASDAQ), anindependent oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered inHouston, Texas, where he was the Chief Financial Officer and PrincipalAccounting Officer since September 2003. From 1998 to 2002 Mr Young worked for Chaparral Resources, Inc., an oil and gasexploration and production company with operated assets in the Republic ofKazakhstan, culminating in the role of Vice President and Chief FinancialOfficer. From 1991 until 1998, Mr Young worked in a number of capacities in theoil and gas tax practice of Arthur Andersen LLP. Mr Young joins as an officer of the Company, which is not a Board levelposition, and will be based in Max Petroleum's London office.
