AGM statement

Malcolm Hepworth, the Chairman of John Lewis of Hungerford Plc, will make the following statement at its AGM to be held at 4 pm today:

"I am pleased to report we are making progress in addressing the unanticipated staffing changes highlighted in our recent financial results. However, we were not prepared to compromise the customer experience during the intervening period and so inevitability our ability to convert enquiries into firm orders was adversely impacted. Sales for the first half of the current year are now expected to be broadly in line with the corresponding period last year".

Shareholders are reminded that the sole purpose of today's meeting will be to transact the business set out in the notice of the AGM. The Board intend to provide a presentation to shareholders at a later date.
