Notification of Transactions of Directors/Persons Discharging Managerial responsibilities and Connected Persons

THE UK COAL 2010 LONG TERM INCENTIVE PLAN ('LTIP')

To comply with DTR 3.1.4, the Company advises that on 26 August 2010, awards of ordinary shares of 1p each were made under the LTIP rules to the following Directors and PDMRs:

Gareth Williams (Managing Director, Mining): 575,000 shares

Owen Michaelson (Managing Director, Property): 575,000 shares

David Brocksom (Finance Director): 586,687 shares

William Tinsley (Production Director): 266,175 shares

David Stewart (HR Director): 211,250 shares

Richard Cole (Company Secretary): 247,406 shares

Stuart Hoult (Safety Director): 170,625 shares

Philip Garner (Commercial Contracts Director): 238,875 shares

The number of shares stated is the maximum available to the persons named above on satisfaction of the performance targets in full, subject to the possible addition of further shares representing the notional re-investment of dividends. The earliest date on which the persons named above would become beneficially entitled to the shares comprised in the awards is 26 August 2013, which is the third anniversary of the date on which the awards were granted.
