Toumaz Debuts New Sensium(TM) Module

13 Oct 2006 07:00

Embargoed Release: 0700hrs Friday 13th October 2006 Nanoscience Inc. (`The Group') Toumaz Technology Limited Debuts New Multi-Function Sensium¢â€ž¢ Module for Ultra-Low Power Wireless Vital Signs Monitoring Nanoscience Inc, the specialist niche investor in emerging technologies withstrong commercial propositions from within the growing nanotechnology sector,is pleased to announce the first availability of the Sensium¢â€ž¢ modular system. This system embodies a new ultra-low power wireless infrastructure for healthand lifestyle monitoring applications developed by the Group's wholly ownedsubsidiary Toumaz Technology Limited (`Toumaz').The wireless-enabled modules, incorporating Toumaz's ultra-low power Zoum¢â€ž¢transceiver platform, are now available to key customers in low volume ordersand the Group is currently seeking to expand its production capacity to meetanticipated higher volume orders in due course. The Directors anticipate thatfollowing testing and trials scheduled for the first quarter of next year, thesingle chip Sensium will thereafter be ready for production engineering inadvance of mass production by Toumaz's subcontract manufacturing partner,Infineon Technologies AG. The first demonstration of the new modular system iscurrently taking place on Oracle's stand at The World of Health IT Conferenceand Exhibition being held in Geneva, Switzerland (Geneva Palexpo, 10-13 October2006, Oracle stand #315).The ultra small size module can be attached to the body with a sticking plasterto enable non-intrusive, continuous monitoring and analysis of the mobileindividual's ECG, temperature and at least one other vital sign, such asrespiration or activity level. The wearable sensor module incorporates Toumaz'sultra low power Zoum RF transceiver to create a wireless data link and transmitpersonal readings on to a Zoum-enabled SD card or USB module. The SD card plugsinto any standard PDA or cellphone running Windows Mobile 5, allowing the ECG,temperature and other vital sign data to be received, processed and displayedvia Toumaz's ECGSoft application software. A sophisticated, real-timearrhythmia detection algorithm continuously analyses the incoming data toprovide an intelligent ECG monitoring capability.Due to the ultra-low power Zoum transceiver, the body-worn Sensium module iscapable of being manufactured in a small, non-intrusive form that can bepowered by a small, low cost zinc-air battery to provide multi-functioncontinuous monitoring for an average of approximately five days.Toumaz's Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, Professor Chris Toumazou, commented:`The Sensium module is delivering the wireless infrastructure for a new wave ofpersonalised care applications, and is now set to enable a real revolution inareas such as continuous vital sign monitoring. By integrating with standardmobile devices such as PDAs and cellphones, the Sensium is defining newpossibilities for low cost, disposable monitoring solutions for a whole rangeof healthcare applications, including `at risk', post-operative and homemonitoring.' -Ends- Further informationThe World of Health IT Conference and Exhibitionhttp://www.worldofhealthit.orgRichard Rose Nanoscience 07836 250 474 Ben Simons Hansard Communications 020 7245 1100 ENDNANOSCIENCE INC
