Abbey PLC06 October 2006 ABBEY PLC CHAIRMAN'S REMARKS TO SHAREHOLDERS AT AGM ABBEY CURRENT TRADING Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 69th Annual General Meeting of Abbey plc.Before commencing the formalities this morning, I wish to make a brief statementabout current trading. Trading in the early months of our new year is off to a solid start. New homesare continuing to sell well in both England and Ireland. In England stronginvestor demand is underpinning market confidence. In Ireland the market continues to be robust and our projects are doing wellthroughout Leinster. New sites have recently commenced in Balbriggan, Portlaoise and Kilcoole, CoWicklow. These developments are mainly 3 and 4 bedroom homes and we are alreadyenjoying very strong interest. Overall the Group is in a good position and optimistic for the year ahead.
