Thank you for all expressed views. I agree that SP goes up and down and I had read recently that one way of to deal with the fluctuation is that don't look at the SP daily, which I tend to agree. However when the SP falls consistently over a long period of time, it does raise questions. It's up to the individuals to buy/snap the share at the price he/she is willing to pay. Like many, I intend to hold the share for long term, well, at least I keep telling myself this. I also have been looking at value investing, the famous Buffett's investment strategy and stumbled on the following website Simplywall.st and it reckons that NG's intrinsic value is only 51p, using a discounted cash flow calculation! Well, I have no idea how they work that out but some of the intrinsic values e.g. VOD or HSBA, are very believable. So I'm sitting strapped and holding my fists. https://simplywall.st/LSE:NG./national-grid
Hi Sundayboy, I agree with you. I still don't understand where the 3.2B has gone. If you bought the share on 19-Apr at 1012p, you are even. If you bought it at lower, you will gain and vice versa. There is NO mention of where is the 3.2B revenue. The Board surely didn't spend the 3.2B buying back the share, it's the share consolidation of 11 for 12. The fact is that we have less shares. Suppose someone bought the share on or after the ex-div (special) date, the SP has to reach 1096p (1012+84) to get back to the 1012p level had you bought it before the ex-div date. May be I'm just stupid to understand what Gerry557 was saying.
Hi Gerry557, Thank you for your comments. The point I was making is that NG claimed that the special dividend was distributed to the share holders from the sale of £3.2B of the UK Gas business. But in reality, to qualify for the special div, it is a share sacrifice or consolidation of 11 for 12. In short even if I bought it at 1012p I will gain nothing from the sale of gas distribution and the 3.2B will remain with the company, NOT being distributed. That is the bit I don't understand. Never mind.
If you follow the link, it explains how the special dividend works, shown with an example. Actually it's a pointless exercise because you will only gain If you bought the share at price lower than 1012p. I still cannot understand how the 3.2 billion from selling the U.K. Businesss was returned tto the share holders because we have to give one share on every 12 through consolidation to entitle the special dividend!
If SL is going to buy ADN at 286.5p, why the SP keeps falling since the initial surge after the announcement. The price now is 270.4p. Any suggestion?
STAN has been rising steadily but falls sharply today. Any suggestion?
This share chat is very quiet? I saw some strange share deal today with only 1 share being sold plus many small ones i.e. in the 10s. Can anyone explain why such behaviour?
LUCKYLES, Thank you for the info on why ROK has fallen so much. This is typical of UK managements, who are absolutely so INCOMPETENT in running any organisation, let alone their own families and lives, and the investors have to pay for THEIR mistakes. I bought some ROK shares because some analyst's said how wonderful the company is going to be but it turns out to be loads of bull-****s or they just have no idea of how incompetent these people are. All they've done are based on published material forgetting the true picture behind it all. Never mind, any lesson learnt!
Can someone tell me what's going on with ROK?
What on earth is going on with ROK?
What the effing is going on with ROK?
The consolidation of 10 into 1 is pure scandal. I am afraid that my estimate is 165 due to poor prospect.
In May, optimism insisted that the share price will reach 50p. As the chart will tell you, it's nothing like it but hovering around 25~32p. Totally dismayed. So sometimes it's better just to ignore what's been said. Thanks for the lesson, guys! The ROK management are just buch of Masters of Bull**** Artistry or MBA.
What is the reason behind the optimism? Strong company IMO alone will not do the trick, surely?
With the newly appointed PM and subsequent Government, I bet the market will rise tomorrow.
Logica Sell at 144p (this week 144p) comments Numis Securities. Following a review of this international IT services group, Numis has reiterated its negative investment stance. Although group management has not done badly recently, substantial challenges remain: 1) a 10pc profit margin target looks stretching, with no European rivals coming close to this over the last business cycle 2) competition in the offshoring of business to cheaper markets remains intense. With the shares already trading at the same earnings valuation reached at the peak of the last business cycle, but with the company then only achieving 2pc compound growth, better opportunities appear to exist elsewhere in the sector. *Brokers' tips are compiled by Hargreaves Lansdown, the stockbrokers . No it's not lonely here as I've been keeping an eye on the Chat everyday, although there is nothing worth to report. I have been wondering if I should carry on holding or selling my little stock to make enough money to pay for the car service - I should be a car mechanics to make more money! So I'm keeping a look out for any good suggestion. Of course, if I come across anything of interest, I'll share it.
You guys are right. My purchase is not even listed! It may be because my broker (iii) made a bulk purchase. Weird! But the trades are sparse. Also agree with Shippy28's comment with Directors re good news. Let's all make some profit. Did I hear it right, the PM has just annouced that the shareholders can have a say on the renumeration pacake of the company directors! You must be kidding! They all decide how much they deserve, sod the employees or shareholders.
