Redundant mate, not so bad for me as will be taking early retirement when that happens. It's the younger ones I feel for. As you know where I work the house prices are a bit high for those younger ones with big mortgages as a number have said they won't be able to keep up with payments. Like I said we are well paid, but with a 4 on 4 off shift system. They will find it hard to find a job with same money

For the record. I work for a global company that makes soft drinks. The site I work at is closing down next year in stages. We produce the cheapest cpc (cost per case) of said soft drinks in the UK. Yet the site is closing and lines being moved to other sites around the UK with the loss not only our jobs but the skills as well. Which I may add is one of the reasons why we are the cheapest cpc. The company have come up with a cock and bull story as to the reasons why. But anyone can see the reasons is the fact we are the highest paid site in the UK. Those said lines when implemented WILL by filled with low paid low skilled agency workers at half the wages. FACT. So when in quite times when production is not in quite so much demand ie winter, it's bye bye this week don't need you. That's what is happening now FACT. Companies large and small very often say when you try and negotiate a wage rise, the answer very often is this is what you will get take or leave it as I can replace you tomorrow. The abundance of cheap labor is putting downward pressure on wages like it or not. Yet the ones at the top, are enjoying higher wages bigger bonuses etc. The governments as in both are saying we will build more affordable houses. Affordable to WHO. NOT the average working man/woman that's a fact. Unless you want to save for the next 25 years for a deposit. As for skilled workers/craftsman. Put 5-10% profit back into growing our own people by bringing back aprenterships. The UK had some of the best skilled workers in the world not so long ago. Now companies pay more attention to profit than maintain their own skilled people. Cheaper to go elsewhere and pay someone to do same skill but for less money. Then complain about shortage of said skilled people. that's it I'm done

Said a couple of weeks back that this summer would have an impact on the farmers. Just watching the news and the farmers saying prices will go up as yield is very poor this year due to the hottest summer for decades. Including the dairy farmers with the grass not growing enough for hey/silage for the winter feed. So expect milk etc could go up by 2-4p pint. Potatoes and corn products to go up as well. Wonder if those same prices will come down if they have a bumper crop next year, like hell.
