Loading debt is okay if you're a company with decent growth prospects as the size of the debt relative to the business becomes smaller and smaller.

The problem is the debt was piled on on what was effectively a saturated business. It's okay while the sun is shining but heavily exposed when it's raining. The pandemic was extremely unfortunate but just goes to reinforce the dangers of over leveraging and its impact on what might have seemed a relatively stable business.

We talking about binge watching box sets though. I don't mind popping to the cinema once a year for a Star Wars or a bond. That's a realistic frequency. Cinema might need to reinvent itself but I can't imagine much demand for frequent trips to watch a series. One of the aspects of box sets that makes them convent it they fit round the spare hour we have in our lives here or there, at the gym, while cooking, etc, etc. That flexibility cannot be translated to the big screen as you need the same audience coming back time after time.

Corporate actions often have impacts on personal taxation. I wouldn't think too much into it.

I wasn't thinking one sitting. More continually coming back back with the travel, parking, food, etc. We usually end up watching one a night if we really get stick into a series and polish it off over a week or two.

I think there’s some mileage in watching major sporting events at the cinema.

HNS - I think the question you should be asking is why would a mega tech company with its own streaming platform need or even want a cinema chain.

Surely the part that makes cinema valuable is the exclusivity window and if they were to entertain that they would be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I don't think people watch Netflix for films though. It's for The Crown, Squid Games, Tiger King, etc, etc. I think the only film I have ever been excited watching on their was the Irishman.

Disney is a bit different due to the depth and quality of their library. Also if you have young children there's nothing better in terms of films - Lion King, Toy Story, Finding Memo, Monsters inc, etc, etc.
