'So off to the movie theatre for an escape, a reappraisal of one’s life. Edification.'
Completely agree
'To suggest that people do not like serialised drama in the cinema is to completely miss what is in front of you. What is a franchise if not a serialisation? Bond, back to the future, avatar, lord of the rings, etc if not a serialised format.'
We talking about binge watching box sets though. I don't mind popping to the cinema once a year for a Star Wars or a bond. That's a realistic frequency. Cinema might need to reinvent itself but I can't imagine much demand for frequent trips to watch a series. One of the aspects of box sets that makes them convent it they fit round the spare hour we have in our lives here or there, at the gym, while cooking, etc, etc. That flexibility cannot be translated to the big screen as you need the same audience coming back time after time.
