Depends who owned it when. BP owned it for much of the time. Prior to that it was British Gas before being privatised and sold to BP in 1984, so there was not share price in a nationalised firm. Under BP ownership this was one of very very many worldwide production fields (Alaskan Slope, Forties field etc, Magnus Field etc) . Wytch Farm was tiny in comparison, but very profitable. Share price of BP at the time would be meaningless. There is really nothing to compare this to except perhaps the Egdons of this business. That is what is so attractive because almost inevitably an oil major, if not busy divesting their oil interests in the present climate, would be interested in operating a massive (this is by no means certain) onshore field and with existing infrastructure close by would be very tempting even at today's oil prices.
