S4 Capital
Sir Martin Sorrell (Founder & Executive Chairman) had a broad ranging discussion with Nancy Hungerford (MD, FTI Consulting).
The conversation started with thoughts on the forthcoming US Election. The view that emerged was that the Election is too close to call, with many calling it as 50/50 though when pushed it is more likely that Donald Trump will be re-elected. Sir Martin noted that although the focus is on who will be President, it is just as important to consider who wins the House and the Senate. In Sir Martin’s view, business prefers Trump as tax and regulation will be lower than under Kamala Harris.
The incoming President will have to grapple with the major geopolitical issues of which Sir Martin viewed the deterioration in the relationship between the US and China as the most important. He notes that Chinese divisions are increasingly split off from their US parents due to fears over Taiwan and supply chains.
The conversation turned to AI which is a major area of focus for S4 Capital, with Monks recently awarded AI Agency of the Year by Adweek. Sir Martin believes there are significant opportunities to i) improve visualisation and copywriting productivity ii) deliver considerably more effective and economic hyper-personalisation iii) more automated and integrated media planning and buying iv) improving general client and agency efficiency and v) democratisation of knowledge. Through the application of AI, S4 Capital has identified how work can be automated at scale.
Nancy then asked Sir Martin about the recent GM account win. GM is a top 10 advertiser in the US and top 20 globally, and recently announced that Monks would become a foundational agency with the aim of bringing simplicity, consistency, scale and cost savings to how content is created through technology, automation and best in class digital creative and craft.
On a bright note to finish, Sir Martin noted George Orwell’s prediction that an increase in automation will at least enable us to take more holidays!
